Assistant Park Superintendent

Position Overview San Bernardino County Regional Parks is seeking an Assistant Park Superintendent to support a Park Superintendent in the day‑to‑day operations, maintenance, and supervision of a moderate to large park. Responsibilities Assign, supervise, or participate in the activities of Park Rangers and other personnel in construction, grounds development, repair, and maintenance of park grounds, equipment, and facilities. Assist the superintendent in planning the improvement, maintenance, and repair of park facilities and grounds. Maintain order in the parks and inform the public regarding park ordinances, rules, and regulations; issue verbal warnings and take other disciplinary measures as required and report incidents of injury, vandalism, fires, etc., to the appropriate authority. Evaluate employee performance; participate in hiring and training new employees and develop employment work schedules. Ensure registration of park visitors and collection of fees; coordinate the use of park areas, public address systems, and other park facilities with organized groups. Qualifications Education: An associate degree or equivalent coursework from an accredited college or university. If a degree has not been conferred, a list of coursework (unofficial transcript) must be submitted. An education equivalency evaluation is required for education received outside the U.S. Experience: Three (3) years of experience in construction, retail, parks, project management, or customer service related industry—including direct, in‑person contact with the public as a primary duty—and one (1) year of full‑scope supervisory experience. The supervisory experience may be concurrent and must be clearly described in work history. Substitution Options Bachelor’s degree may substitute up to six (6) months of qualifying experience. This substitution does not apply to the required one (1) year of supervisory experience. One additional year of experience may substitute for the required one year of education. Ideal Candidate Bachelor’s degree. Experience in a maintenance, building trade, or construction related field with practical knowledge of project completion. Strong work ethic and ability to manage and complete assigned projects efficiently. Excellent communication and customer service skills with a can‑do attitude. Ability to use tools and maintenance vehicles responsibly. Experience in cash handling and reconciliation. Experience leading staff by example and through oral and written communication. Knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, uses, repair, and maintenance. Ability to enforce park rules and regulations and promote good public relations. Qualified Applicators Certificate in pesticide application and National Recreation & Park Association Aquatic Facility Operator certificate are highly desirable. Travel within the county is required; a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be maintained.
