Description of Job
Protect Colorado's rich past as a Security Ambassador at the History Colorado Center in downtown Denver. In this active, public-facing role, you will safeguard staff, visitors, students, events and priceless artifacts. You will communicate museum policies, perform facility safety checks, monitor exhibition galleries, and provide exceptional, welcoming customer service to ensure a safe environment for all.

History Colorado Center is hiring for two vacancies
Work includes but is not limited to the following:
Visitor Services and Facility Access:
Front Security Desk & Reception: Greet and route visitors, perform telephone reception (transfer calls, take messages), and provide general museum, facility, and lost-and-found information.
Facility Access: Monitor entry and exit points, control access to restricted areas, escort staff, contractors, or visitors when requested, and secure the building, interior areas, and lights during opening and closing procedures.
Event and Meeting Access Verification: Greet and check credentials, tickets, and passes at designated entry points to prevent unauthorized access.
Systems Monitoring & Reporting:
Systems Monitoring: Continuously monitor cameras, physical alarm systems, fire protection, HVAC systems, and building environmental controls.
Documentation & Logs: Complete daily activity logs, submit online facility requests, and document and file online incident or police reports following set protocols.
Safety, Security & Enforcement:
Rule Enforcement: Ensure patron and staff compliance with general safety and security protocols.
Patrol & Inspection: Conduct regular building and post checks with dispatch, inspect entry/exit points and interior areas each shift, and monitor the property for thefts, disturbances, vandalism, and unauthorized entry.
Emergency Response & First Aid: Respond to emergencies (fire alarms, medical situations, security incidents), administer CPR or first aid as necessary, contact 911 or law enforcement, and assist with emergency evacuations, first-responder liaising, and alarm resets.
Tabletop Exercises: Participate and support structured tabletop exercises.
General Operations & Collaboration:
Communication: Maintain clear radio communication protocols with the Control Hub and internal teams. Maintain clear phone communication with law enforcement, emergency services, and internal teams.
Team Support & Logistics: Collaborate with Security, Facility, and Guest Services teams. May support business-related transport duties and loading dock relief.
Professional Development: Participate in ongoing training programs and professional development.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
This is a classified position within the State of Colorado Personnel System. In accordance with state law, applicants must be residents of the State of Colorado at the time of application. Applications from out-of-state residents cannot be accepted.

Experience:
- 2 years of experience in customer service, security, or a related field (museum or cultural institution experience preferred) applying policies, procedures, or operational rules within a public-facing environment.
Substitutions:
- Successful completion of coursework from an accredited college or university in Criminal Justice, Museum Studies, Hospitality, or a closely related field may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis (e.g., 30 semester hours equals one year of experience), up to a maximum of one (1) year. (one yearof hands-on experience is required in regardless of degree.)
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a museum, cultural institution, or similar visitor-driven entertainment venue focused on immersive storytelling and public engagement.
Experience following protocols and providing excellent customer service directly to internal and external customers.
Experience typing and submitting detailed digital reports, logs, and daily work files.
Experience in high-pressure situations and using de-escalation methods towards conflict resolution.
Experience working independently and as part of a team.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Conditions of Employment:
Must become certified in First Aid, CPR, and receive AED training, if hired.
Circumstances may require this position to occasionally work outside of scheduled hours.
Must be able to lift and move up to 25 pounds.
Must be able to sit, stand, and/or walk for extended periods.
Must be able to climb and descend stairs.
Must be able to crouch and stand.
Must be able to work under inclement weather conditions.
