Business Development Representative - Municipal Relations

A growing civil engineering consulting firm in South Austin is seeking a Business Development Representative to help expand its presence across Central Texas by building and strengthening relationships with municipal leaders and public agencies. This is not a traditional sales role. Instead, it's a relationship-focused position centered on connecting with city officials, understanding community needs, and serving as a trusted liaison between municipalities and the firm's engineering team. The ideal candidate has experience working with or alongside local government- such as a former mayor, city council member, city manager, assistant city manager, economic development professional, or other municipal leader- and enjoys building long-term partnerships that support public infrastructure projects. Responsibilities Build and maintain strong relationships with municipalities, public agencies, and community stakeholders throughout Central Texas. Identify upcoming capital improvement programs, infrastructure initiatives, and funding opportunities. Serve as a trusted point of contact between municipal leaders and the firm's engineering professionals. Develop new client relationships while strengthening existing partnerships. Attend city council meetings, industry conferences, networking events, and community functions to expand the firm's presence. Collaborate with technical staff on client strategy, proposals, presentations, and pursuit efforts. Help position the firm for future municipal engineering opportunities through proactive relationship building and strategic outreach. Stay informed on local government priorities, infrastructure planning, and market trends. Qualifications Experience working in or closely with municipal government, public administration, economic development, or public infrastructure. Established relationships within Central Texas municipalities are highly desirable. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and networking skills. Comfortable representing the firm at public meetings, conferences, and community events. Self-motivated with the ability to develop long-term relationships and identify strategic opportunities. Interest in public infrastructure, community development, and helping cities accomplish their long-term goals.
