Lead Software Engineer - Mainframe & Java

Salary: $61,000 - 101,000 per year Requirements:

• We require formal training or certification in software engineering concepts, along with 5+ years of practical experience.
• We need hands-on experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
• We are looking for advanced Java expertise, with strong experience integrating distributed applications with z/OS mainframe capabilities such as batch/JCL, CICS/IMS, MQ, DB2, datasets, and USS, where applicable.
• We expect proven experience supporting enterprise platforms through system design, development, testing, and production support.
• We need demonstrated proficiency in automation and continuous delivery, including building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for distributed and mainframe components where relevant.
• We value experience leading the responsible use of approved AI-assisted software development tools, with the ability to set expectations for validating AI output for correctness, performance, and security.
• We require a strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity, secure handling of inputs and outputs, and resiliency and security expectations.
• We need proficiency across all stages of the Software Development Life Cycle.
• We expect advanced knowledge of agile engineering practices, including CI/CD, application resiliency patterns, and secure engineering principles.
• We require in-depth knowledge of the financial services industry and its IT systems.
• We prefer practical cloud-native experience.
• Prior experience working on Agile teams is preferred.
• Exposure to cloud technologies is preferred.

• We execute inventive software solutions, including design, development, and technical troubleshooting, using approaches that go beyond routine methods to solve complex problems.
• We design, develop, and troubleshoot end-to-end solutions across z/OS mainframe and Java-based platforms.
• We build, maintain, and improve secure, high-quality production code, perform code reviews, and resolve issues in code written by others.
• We identify and advance automation and observability improvements to reduce recurring issues and strengthen operational stability across applications and platforms.
• We drive adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes, while promoting consistent validation standards and reusable patterns.
• We apply knowledge of SDLC tools, including approved AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to increase the value delivered by automation.
• We lead evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to assess architectural designs, technical credentials, and fit within existing systems and information architecture.
• We lead and contribute to software engineering communities of practice, encouraging engineering excellence and the adoption of emerging technologies.
