PhysicianSalary Range $214,768.76 - $361,971.27 Salary/year Position Type Regular Full-Time Job Shift M-F 8am-5pm Category MedicalDescriptionIndian Preference in hiring is given to qualified enrolled members of Ketchikan Indian Community (KIC) and Native Americans consistent with P.L. 93-638 and in accordance with KIC policy and other applicable federal laws.Job SummaryIncumbent will provide direct acute primary health care services including diagnosis, treatment, referral, and follow-up to eligible patients. Stresses preventative measures to patients in avoiding health problems as well as necessity for compliance with prescribed treatment measures. Record accurate and complete medical records of all patient contacts, both inpatient and outpatient. In conjunction with other medical/pharmacy/dental staff, assist with development of the appropriate formulary for the clinic.Job Duties & ResponsibilitiesProvide patient care services by utilizing age appropriate procedures for all age groups.Examine and diagnosis individual's health related conditions presenting themselves for acute outpatient care.Determine when patient referral to specialized care or testing is required and work with administrative and clinical support to follow up patient care.Educate patients in the nature of their health conditions and recommend therapies as well as the general promotion of health prevention of disease.Maintain accurate and complete medical record of all patient contracts.Establishes patient care goals by educating and counseling the patient, friends/family and reinforcing their understanding of disease, medications, and self-care skills.Provide emotional and psychological support to patients, friends, and families through entire process.Audits patient/department records and performs quarterly peer review to maintain patient care service documentation.Monitor workload of function area, identifies peak/slack periods, and make operational or staff adjustment as necessary for patient service productivity.Being accessible to staff for consultation as needed.Maintain partnerships with other medical organizations at local, state, and national level.Recognize, identify, and resolve problems and issues without direct supervision.Provide instruction to other employees of this or similar job classification in all aspects of procedure and technique relating to the duties required by this job description unless such instruction requires a specialized certification which the employee doing the training does not have.Other related duties as assignedNecessary Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge in the general concepts, principles, and practice of medicine.Knowledge of AAAHC Accreditation Requirements.Strong understanding and sensitivity to American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) Tribal culture and lifestyle, working effectively with AI/AN populations.Effective oral and written communication skills with sensitivity to the lifestyles of targeted participants.Skills in operating personal computers using a variety of computer software.Skills in conceptual thinking and orderly planning in the diagnosis treatment of patients.Ability to work effectively with physicians, nurses, supervisors, and ancillary staff.Ability to analyze complex situations efficiently.Ability to utilize maximum degree of professionalism and diplomacy with those who may be experiencing a high degree of stress both mentally and/or physically (both patients & co-workers).Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with management, coworkers, and outside contacts.Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and comply with all applicable federal and tribal privacy laws and KIC policy (HIPAA, HITECH, etc.).Ability to learn and apply program/agency operating policies and procedures.Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meet deadlines.Ability to work independently as well as with teams.KIC CompetenciesCultural Competency: To be respectful and responsive to the health beliefs, practices, and cultural and linguistic needs of KIC Tribal Members. Employees must pass a pre-employment and subsequent random and/or for-cause drug and alcohol screening to be eligible for and maintain employment.KIC has several positions that must comply with the P.L. 101-630 Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Protection Act (ICPA); all employment offers in the "covered" classification are conditional until KIC has received a Federal criminal background check verifying eligibility to work in these programs.QualificationsMinimum Education & Experience RequiredMedical Doctor (MD), Doctor of Medicine of Osteopathy (DO), from a school in the United States approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicant's graduation.Post licensure professional experience in the general practice of medicine.Approved internship training.Approved residency training.Graduate level study in accredited medical school.Post licensure professional experience in a specialized area of practice.Other advanced study or training (outside of medical school or hospital) creditable toward satisfaction of training program requirements for Board Eligibility.Incumbent must be licensed to practice medicine in any of the fifty (50) U.S. States, the District of Columbia, or Puerto Rico.Direct Tribal hire employee must have permanent, full and unrestricted State of Alaska professional physician license.Proof of valid driver's license with acceptable driving record (when DL is required for the job).Preferred Education & ExperienceExperience in community clinic preferred and a strong commitment to multi-disciplinary teamwork.
