Accounting Associate - Accounts Payable
Location: New York City, NY
Schedule: Full-Time, TEMP TO HIRE
Compensation: $35.00/hour
Assignment: 6-Month Contract with Strong Potential for Permanent Hire
About the Opportunity
The Cyperus Group is conducting a search on behalf of a well-established nonprofit organization dedicated to providing housing and supportive services throughout the New York metropolitan area. This organization is seeking an experienced Accounting Associate with a focus on Accounts Payable to join its finance team.
This role is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys working in a collaborative environment and has experience managing vendor payments, maintaining accurate financial records, and supporting month-end and year-end accounting activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Process accounts payable transactions accurately and timely
- Review invoices and supporting documentation for proper approval and compliance
- Maintain vendor records, including W-9 documentation and tax-related files
- Assist with annual 1099 preparation and reporting
- Support payment processing activities, including check runs and electronic payments
- Investigate and resolve invoice discrepancies and vendor inquiries
- Maintain organized electronic and physical accounting records
- Assist with financial reporting and other accounting projects as needed
- Ensure adherence to organizational accounting policies and procedures
- Collaborate with internal departments to support efficient payment workflows
Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of Accounts Payable experience
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial documentation
- Experience processing high-volume invoices and vendor payments
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and Teams
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
