Work Environment

The Surgical Center at Gracious Health offers state-of-the-art facilities designed to support advanced surgical interventions and recovery processes. As a Physician Assistant within our liver transplant department, you will work alongside attending physicians, medical fellows, and experienced healthcare professionals who share a common goal: delivering world-class care. The role is primarily onsite, allowing for face-to-face collaboration and immediate patient interaction. Your schedule will consist of five 8-hour shifts per week from Monday to Friday, with required on-call responsibilities each month, ensuring continuous patient support.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough evaluations of patients with acute and chronic liver disease, developing tailored treatment plans that enhance patient health and quality of life.
• Perform comprehensive medical histories and physical exams to assess patients and identify abnormalities, facilitating timely interventions.
• Order and interpret diagnostic studies to guide clinical decisions, making data-driven assessments that impact patient care.
• Administer medications and treatments per established protocols while ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines, including obtaining necessary approvals from supervising physicians.
• Coordinate essential laboratory tests, therapeutic procedures, and imaging studies to aid in comprehensive treatment strategies.
• Assist supervising physicians in the operating room, acting as a first or second assistant during liver transplant surgeries and performing surgical techniques as trained.
• Facilitate effective communication with patients, families, and multidisciplinary team members to ensure seamless continuities of care, both inpatient and outpatient.
• Take proactive measures in emergency situations, initiating life-saving procedures as required while recognizing when to escalate care to the physician.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, actively contributing to the continuous enhancement of care protocols and patient safety measures.
• Engage in patient education, providing vital information and resources to empower patients and families in managing their health conditions.

Patient Population / Client Focus

The Surgical Physician Assistant will primarily focus on patients needing liver transplants, encompassing a range of demographics and backgrounds within the Brownsville community. This role requires a sensitive approach to address not only the medical complexities of these patients but also their individual social, emotional, and educational needs, as liver disease can deeply affect all aspects of life.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
• Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program recognized by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc.
• Current PA state license to practice, along with Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration.

Preferred Experience

• A minimum of 1 year of experience as a Physician Assistant, preferably in a surgical or transplantation setting.
• Familiarity with transplant protocols, care models, and postoperative management.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment, showcasing strong leadership and collaboration skills.

Compensation and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary range of USD 140,000 to 180,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
