Are you a highly organized professional who enjoys providing exceptional customer service and supporting California’s emergency preparedness mission? The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) is seeking an Office Technician (Typing) to join the California Specialized Training Institute (CSTI) State Training Operations Unit.

In this dynamic role, you will serve as the primary point of contact for public inquiries and course registration activities, supporting the delivery of all-hazards training to first responders and emergency managers across California. You will perform a variety of advanced administrative and customer service functions, coordinate training-related information, maintain records and databases, and assist with the successful delivery of statewide training programs that strengthen California’s preparedness and resilience.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, customer-focused, and possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills. This position requires sound judgment, strong organizational abilities, proficiency in administrative support functions, and the ability to effectively interact with emergency management professionals, training partners, and stakeholders at all levels of government.

Working Conditions

Hybrid Telework: This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule. Additional in office days may be required based on the business need.

Special Requirements

  • The position(s) require(s) the ability to type at a minimum speed as designated on the Class Specifications (link available in the additional documentation section). You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, prior to being hired. Additional information regarding acceptable typing tests is available at the CalCareers.ca.gov website.

Statement of Qualifications

The SOQ must answer the following statements using examples and explanations where appropriate.

  1. Describe your experience performing office and typing duties that require a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Include the types of documents you prepared and the tools you used.

  2. Provide an example of how you delivered effective customer service in a fast-paced environment. Include how you handled multiple inquiries and ensured clear communication.
