Job Description and Duties

Under direction of the Supervisor I, within the Executive Office, the Office Technician (Typing) (OT(T)), performs a wide variety of complex and varied clerical functions involving a high degree of initiative and independent judgment, the evaluation of complex situations and taking appropriate action, including performing reception duties, drafting and reviewing various documents, and managing office equipment and supply inventory

Working Conditions

The schedule for this position is in office five days a week from 8:00am – 5:00pm.

Special Requirements

  • The position(s) require(s) the ability to type at a minimum speed as designated on the Class Specifications (link available in the additional documentation section). You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, prior to being hired. Additional information regarding acceptable typing tests is available at the CalCareers.ca.gov website.
  • The position(s) require(s) a Background Investigation be cleared prior to being hired.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If you are meeting Minimum Qualifications with education, you must include your unofficial transcripts/diploma for verification in your application packet. Official sealed transcripts or your original diploma (with embossed seal) will be required prior to appointment. If it is determined that a candidate does not meet all Minimum Qualifications, the candidate will be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible to be hired for the classification. All candidates who are determined to not meet the Minimum Qualifications will be contacted in writing and will have 10 business days to respond with additional information supporting their Minimum Qualifications for the classification. Candidates who have been withheld may file an appeal with the State Personnel Board.

  • Statement of Qualifications -

    Interested individuals must submit a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) with their application. Resumes, letters, and other materials do not take the place of the SOQ. The SOQ should have a title of “Statement of Qualifications, your name,” be no more than 2 pages, and no smaller than 12-point font and address the following:

    1. Please describe your experi ence that aligns with the desirable qualifications listed for this position. Be specific about the duties you performed, the skills you applied, and how your background has prepared you to meet the expectations of this role.
    2. Describe your approach to learning new procedures and tasks. Include the methods you use to understand instructions, how you seek clarification when needed, and the strategies you follow to ensure you are completing tasks accurately and in accordance with direction.
  • Other - Valid Typing Certificate - Please note: State departments will only honor typing certificates issued within the last four years and certified from a five (5) minute typing test that meets the CalHR requirements, with a minimum of 40 WPM (words per minute). Typing certificates that are issued by the Internet, not proctored, or under five minutes will not be accepted.
