Position Title Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Position Control Number 998879 Type of Position Administration Position Status Full-time Department 1901-College of Dental Medicine Campus Western University Campus-Pomona, CA Position Location California Job Summary This is a College of Dental Medicine Full-Time Administrative position within Western University of Health Sciences and is offered in conjunction with a Faculty appointment. Together, the administrative role ( PCN 998879) and the faculty role ( PCN 998435) comprise a full-time position (1.0 FTE / 5 days per week). The salary range listed in this posting represents the total compensation for the combined Administrative and Faculty responsibilities. The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs of the College of Dental Medicine reports to the Dean and plays an integral role within the leadership team of CDM , responsible for guiding and overseeing the development, evaluation, and improvement of curriculum and assessment strategies. This role has a dual focus: ensuring the academic rigor and quality of the program and aligning them with institutional goals and external accreditation requirements. The AD AA will provide strategic oversight and operational management of academic programs, student performance, and institutional policies in collaboration with the OAA. This role ensures academic excellence, supports student success through proactive integrated strategies, and leads the Office of Academic Affairs with a commitment to collaboration, integrity, and continuous improvement. Its primary responsibilities include the general oversight and coordination of the pre-doctoral education program; accreditation; developing and collecting academic data; academic outcomes assessment; developing, monitoring and implementing a system of student evaluation of instruction, including student and alumni surveys; providing oversight related to faculty promotion and tenure; coordinating the development of College policies and procedures; supervising staff of the Office of Academic Affairs; advising the administration on strategic and long-range planning and other duties as assigned. The Associate Dean is a member of the Dean’s Leadership Team; serves as Chair of the Outcomes Assessment Committee; Chair of the Curriculum Design Committee; and is an ex‑officio member of the Faculty Evaluation and Promotion/Tenure Committee; Admissions and Selection Committee; Student Performance Committee and others as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; ability to effectively interact with the administration, faculty, staff, students and outside contacts. Ability to provide leadership in planning, policy formulation and implementation, and outcomes assessment. Ability to handle detail‑oriented assignments and maintain confidentiality. Appreciate the role of faculty governance within the College. Ability to direct a consistent and efficient flow of administrative work. Knowledge of educational needs for contemporary dental practice. Ability to foster teamwork, prioritize workload, delegate authority, and ensure accountability. Required Qualifications Education: DDS / DMD degree or Doctoral/master’s degree in education or related discipline. Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of professional and/or higher education experience, preferably at the dental pre‑doctoral level. Preferred Qualifications Preference: Preference will be given to individuals with additional training or experience in dental education and/or dental accreditation. Key Responsibilities The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs reports to the Dean. Primary responsibilities include general oversight and coordination of the pre‑doctoral education program; accreditation; developing and collecting academic data; academic outcomes assessment. Developing, monitoring and implementing a system of student evaluation of instruction, including student and alumni surveys. Coordinating the development of College policies and procedures. Supervising staff of the Office of Academic Affairs. Advising the administration on strategic and long‑range planning. Serving as Chair of the Outcomes Assessment Committee. Serving as Chair of the Curriculum Design Committee. Being a member of the Dean’s Leadership Team. Serving as an ex‑officio member of the Admissions and Selection Committee. Expected Pay Scale Minimum: $190,000.00 Annually Maximum: $230,000.00 Annually Physical Demands Do the essential functions of this job require lifting? Yes. The employee is regularly required to sit, and reach with hands and arms, and occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, and smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
