Job SummaryThe Program Counselor for the Liberty Partnerships Program (LPP) supports student success in the Yonkers School District by providing academic counseling, mentoring, and social-emotional learning (SEL) development. This role delivers non-clinical counseling support through individual and group sessions, helping students build self-advocacy, organization, and goal-setting skills. The Program Counselor also promotes college and career readiness while ensuring increased student engagement, skill development, and progress toward academic and post-secondary goals.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide academic support, mentoring, and study skills development to studentsFacilitate small group sessions focused on social-emotional learning (SEL), conflict resolution, and goal settingSupport students in developing organization, time management, and self-advocacy skillsConduct outreach and recruit students for participation in the programIntroduce students to college and career pathways through workshops and enrichment activitiesTrack and maintain attendance for student participation and program eventsCoordinate logistics for trips, workshops, and enrichment activitiesConduct outreach to students and families to encourage consistent participationCollaborate with school administrators, teachers, and staff to support student needsPresent program information to students, families, and school staffAttend and support occasional evening events such as parent-teacher nights, financial aid workshops, and college admission eventsEnsure all student data and documentation are accurate, complete, and submitted on timeQualificationsEducation: Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in School Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field required.Experience: No prior experience required; candidates must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, a commitment to student success, and a willingness to learn and grow in the role.Skills: Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to facilitate groups and manage multiple responsibilities.Other: Ability to engage diverse student populations and families.CompetenciesStrong communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to work independently and in a team environment.Problem-solving and analytical thinking.Time management and organizational skills.Adaptability and willingness to learn.Work EnvironmentLocation: New Rochelle / Yonkers School District / LPP program sites (as assigned).Schedule: Part-time (Hours as required, Including occasional evenings).Travel: Local travel for school events, trips, and activities as needed.Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.About Iona/EEO Statement:Founded in 1940, Iona University is a private, Catholic, coeducational institution of learning in the tradition of the Edmund Rice Christian Brothers.
