Responsibilities

Kforce has a client that is seeking a Payroll Specialist in Manassas, VA.Summary:The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll for employees across the organization. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations while maintaining payroll records, responding to employee inquiries, and supporting payroll audits and reporting. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and experienced working with payroll systems in a fast-paced environment.Key Responsibilities:

• Payroll Specialist will process biweekly, semi-monthly, or weekly payroll for employees accurately and on schedule
• Review and audit payroll data, including hours worked, overtime, bonuses, commissions, deductions, and benefit elections
• Maintain employee payroll records and ensure all payroll changes are processed accurately
• Verify and reconcile payroll reports to identify and resolve discrepancies
• Administer garnishments, tax levies, child support orders, and other payroll deductions
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and tax regulations
• Process new hire, termination, and employee status changes within the payroll system
• Coordinate payroll activities with Human Resources, Benefits, Finance, and Accounting teams
• As a Payroll Specialist, you will respond to employee payroll-related inquiries in a timely and professional manner
• Reconcile payroll accounts and assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities
• Prepare payroll reports for management, auditors, and government agencies as needed
• Support annual processes including W-2 preparation, payroll audits, and tax filings
• Assist with payroll system upgrades, testing, and process improvements
• Maintain confidentiality of employee and payroll information

Skills

• Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred
• 2+ years of payroll processing experience
• Experience with payroll systems such as ADP, Ceridian Dayforce, UKG, Workday, Paycom, Oracle, or similar platforms
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll regulations and tax requirements
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, lookups, and data analysis
• Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills
• Strong organizational and time management abilities
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to handle sensitive information with a high degree of confidentiality

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.


We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
