R&D Embedded Systems Software Engineer

Job DescriptionThis is a hybrid role in Little Fall, DEAt Agilent, we inspire and support discoveries that advance the quality of life by equipping laboratories worldwide with the instruments, software, consumables, and expertise they need to do their best work. This R&D Software/Firmware Engineer role is central to that mission—your embedded software will power the next generation of Agilent's Gas Chromatography and sample-handling products that scientists rely on to solve some of the world's most important analytical challenges.As a Software/Firmware Engineer in our R&D group, you will help design and develop new products for Agilent's Gas Chromatograph, Automated Sample Handling, and Automated Sample Preparation lines. You will own requirements, design, development, and test for embedded software applications, libraries, and tools, and collaborate closely with software, firmware, mechanical, and electrical engineers—as well as chemists—to build complete systems.In this role, you will:Gather requirements, then design, develop, and test embedded software applications, libraries, and tools.Deliver real-time control of hardware and embedded systems.Partner with cross-functional engineering and chemistry teams to integrate software into complete products.QualificationsBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field4+ years of programming experience in one or more languages (C/C++)Hands on real-time control of hardware and embedded systemsMicroprocessor or microcontroller development for bare-metal applicationsExperience with device communication standards and protocols (TCP/IP, RS-232, RS-485)Development and implementation of algorithms and data structuresAbility to work effectively in a team environmentDesired — experience with any of the following:Revision control and source code management tools (e.g., Git, ClearCase)Integration and use of third-party software, libraries, and toolsDevelopment for LinuxAdditional programming languages such as low-level assembly, Python, Rust, or C#Object-Oriented Analysis and Design concepts.NET Framework and Visual StudioDatabase concepts and SQLWaterfall or Agile software development life cyclesGraphical User Interface (GUI) developmentFPGA developmentAdditional DetailsThis job has a full time weekly schedule. Our pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
