The Role
This is a hands-on operations role supporting our educators and the broader business. You will help keep day-to-day operations moving through scheduling, communication, recordkeeping, onboarding support, and administrative and operational projects.The work is varied. Some responsibilities will be routine, while others will require you to troubleshoot problems, research solutions, communicate with external partners, and figure out an approach where one does not already exist.

Who We're Looking For
Professionals often lean toward one of two working styles:

• The Task Executor: Does their best work when responsibilities, procedures, and next steps are clearly defined.

• The Outcome Owner: Give them the destination, and they figure out the route. They use available resources, work through roadblocks, make reasonable judgment calls, and take responsibility for reaching the result.

Both styles have value. This role requires an Outcome Owner mindset . You will receive clear goals, resources, and support, but not a detailed daily checklist for every situation. We are looking for someone who can think through problems, make reasoned decisions, use available resources, and keep work moving without constant direction. Paid operations or administrative experience is helpful, but not required. We care more about how you treat people, how you think, how you communicate, and whether you follow through.

• You are warm, approachable, and respectful: Especially when dealing with people who rely on you or need your help. We are not looking for someone who becomes short, dismissive, condescending, or difficult because they have authority.

• You take ownership and are resourceful: You can take a loosely defined assignment, figure out what needs to happen, research solutions and new tools, suggest better methods, and speak up when a current process is not working.

• You make reasoned decisions: We would rather you make a thoughtful decision that needs adjustment than make a careless decision because you did not take the time to think, check, or use the information available.

• You keep your commitments: If you have a pattern of last-minute call-outs, frequently changing plans, or committing to things you cannot consistently follow through on, this role is not for you.

• You communicate professionally: You are comfortable writing polished emails and messages, picking up the phone, and handling routine issues directly.

• You can manage multiple moving parts: You keep track of details, notice missing information and loose ends, learn new systems quickly, and follow up until work is actually complete.

Imagine you are one week into a new role as Operations Coordinator for Community Bridge, a fictional nonprofit that provides groceries and household essentials to families in the community. Volunteers help prepare orders, organize donations, and assist with distribution.

During your first week, you notice that eight recently added volunteers seem unsure about what they are supposed to be doing. Some are asking other volunteers for direction, some are waiting around for instructions, and the experience appears inconsistent depending on who happens to be working that day. Twelve more volunteers are scheduled to start Monday.

During a conversation, your manager mentions how frustrating it has been that new volunteers often do not know what to do when they arrive. They tell you, Please figure out a solution. I already have too much on my plate to manage this.

Keeping in mind that Community Bridge is a nonprofit with limited resources, from start to finish, how do you solve this problem?
