Part-Time Accountant / Bookkeeper- Contract

We do it by picking up your car, taking it in for service, and bringing it back, so there are no more waiting rooms and no more lines. We recently implemented NetSuite Financials and are growing quickly, which means the books need to be clean, current, and investor-ready at all times. This is a newly created role where you will work directly with the founders and have real visibility into how an early‑stage company operates. What You'll Be Responsible For Accounts payable and accounts receivable: keeping both processes running accurately and on time. Bank reconciliations: regular, clean, no surprises. Journal entries and general ledger: posting and maintaining with accuracy. Support and execute monthly close activities, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting. Partner and driver record management in NetSuite: this is a core part of the role. We have a custom NetSuite environment with ongoing partner and driver onboarding. You will own all data entry, keep records clean, and flag inconsistencies before they become problems. Contractor application processing: managing intake and approval for contractor applications, including background checks as needed. Payroll and contractor payment administration through Gusto, ensuring accurate and timely processing and supporting compliance requirements. Expense and spending management through Ramp: keeping vendor and transaction records organized. Sales and city tax filings: handling applicable filings accurately and on time. Produce monthly financial statements, variance analyses, and operational reporting that provide leadership with actionable insights into business performance. Generate financial reports and slice data by relevant dimensions (partner, driver, region, cost category, time period, and other business needs) to support leadership and investor decision‑making. NetSuite saved searches and dashboards: building and maintaining saved searches, tailoring dashboards and views by user, and keeping the environment organized. You do not need to be a developer, but you need to be genuinely comfortable doing this inside a custom setup. Assist with ad hoc accounting, operational, and reporting projects as the company grows. Handle sensitive financial information with discretion. You will have access to company financials, payroll, and banking data, and we need someone who treats that with the confidentiality it deserves. You're proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable operating in a startup environment where processes are still being built. Rather than waiting for direction, you identify issues, recommend improvements, and help create scalable systems. You genuinely like working with numbers. Not just tolerate them, but actually find satisfaction in a clean set of books, a reconciliation that ties out, and a report that tells a clear story. You are the type who notices when something does not look right before anyone asks, and you fix it without being told. Requirements Minimum 3 years of hands‑on bookkeeping or accounting experience, ideally at an accounting firm serving corporate clients or at an operating company. NetSuite Financials experience is required. Candidates should be comfortable navigating a customized NetSuite environment, creating saved searches, and configuring dashboards independently. Demonstrated ability to generate and analyze financial reports, including reporting by partner, driver, cost center, time period, or other business dimensions. Solid working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, month‑end close, and financial statement preparation. Familiarity with payroll administration and associated compliance requirements. Strong Microsoft Office 365 skills, particularly Excel. Based in Santa Clarita/Valencia or Orange County with the ability to attend occasional in‑person meetings in Santa Clarita/Valencia or Orange County (Newport/Costa Mesa/Irvine). Exceptional attention to detail. Errors in our NetSuite environment have real downstream operational consequences. Clear and direct communicator. If something is wrong or behind, we need to know before it becomes a bigger problem. Nice to Have Experience with gig economy or marketplace businesses, including partner/driver structures and 1099 contractor management. Background at an early‑stage or VC‑backed startup. Exposure to Ramp or similar spend management platforms. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field. Compensation $40-$55 per hour, commensurate with experience. Compensation will be determined based on experience, NetSuite proficiency, and overall fit for the role.
