Perioperative Assistant, Operating Room/IPP

Position: Peri Operative Assistant Location: Operating Room/IPP Schedule: 40 hours, Rotate Day/Evening, Every 3rd Weekend (7am-3:30pm) Position Summary: Under general supervision, assists in the clean‑up of the operating rooms and associated surgical areas, and assists with the preparation of rooms for surgical procedures. Maintains a safe and sanitary environment in the Operating Room by performing cleaning and disinfecting tasks, proper storage and handling of equipment, and stocking supplies according to hospital and department policy and procedures. Essential Responsibilities / Duties Reports to and receives direction from Nurse Manager at the beginning of shift. Assists the Charge nurse or nursing managers with various resources as requested. Demonstrates ability to organize time, evidenced by completion of work assignments within shift. Performs assigned duties to assist the nursing staff in safe, efficient delivery of patient care. Assists in maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe environment. Maintains effective inventory control system. Education High school diploma or a state high‑school equivalency (GED). Additional training beyond high school preferred. Job Requirements High school diploma or GED. Additional training preferred. Experience Working knowledge of basic housekeeping and cleaning procedures, particularly as it relates to the surgical area is preferred; on‑the‑job training will be provided. Knowledge and Skills Detail oriented and able to read, write, and understand specific instructions in English. Effective verbal and written communication skills to work with various clinical personnel, resolve problems, and properly identify and label supplies for inventory purposes. Requires observance of “Standard Precautions” by wearing protective clothing, gloves, goggles, and observance of safe handling practices. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during operation equipment handling, arranging instrument trays and equipment carts, conducting inventory, and dispensing supplies. Ability to push/pull carts of instruments and/or equipment. Multilingual skills beyond English in languages appropriate to the patient populations served by Boston Medical Center are preferred. Proficient computer skills. Compensation Range $20.68 - $25.20 per hour. This range is based on minimum job qualifications and may be adjusted based on education, experience, and licensure/certifications directly related to position requirements.
