Commercial Construction Superintendent

Our Client is a Columbus-based commercial general contractor with a reputation for delivering complex, large-scale projects with precision and integrity. We operate across the full spectrum of commercial construction — from ground-up office and mixed-use developments to healthcare, education, industrial, and civic facilities — with active projects ranging from $25M to $500M. We are growing and looking for experienced field leaders who take ownership of their projects and their people.

Position Summary

The Superintendent is the senior field leader responsible for the day-to-day management, coordination, and quality of construction activities on-site. You will serve as the primary point of contact between the field and the project management team, owning the schedule, subcontractor performance, safety program, and the overall execution of your project from mobilization through closeout.

Key Responsibilities

Field Leadership & Schedule Management

• Own and drive the master project schedule; develop, update, and enforce three-week look-ahead schedules in coordination with the Project Manager
• Sequence and coordinate all trade work to ensure uninterrupted workflow and on-time milestone delivery
• Identify schedule risks early and proactively develop and implement recovery plans
• Lead daily and weekly subcontractor coordination meetings

Safety & Compliance

• Enforce and model the company's safety program and OSHA standards — zero-compromise
• Conduct daily site walks, toolbox talks, and job hazard analyses
• Ensure all subcontractors maintain safe, compliant, and organized work areas
• Manage site logistics, laydown areas, access, and housekeeping

Quality Control

• Implement and enforce the project Quality Control plan
• Review submittals, shop drawings, and RFIs to ensure field work conforms to contract documents
• Identify and resolve deficiencies before they are built into the work
• Prepare and manage punch list completion through certificate of occupancy

Subcontractor & Workforce Management

• Direct and hold accountable 15–40+ subcontractors and self-perform crews depending on project size
• Review and approve manpower levels; escalate when scopes are understaffed
• Document daily activities, T&M work, weather events, and any conditions that may impact cost or schedule

Owner & Stakeholder Relations

• Represent the company professionally in owner, architect, and municipality interactions on-site
• Support the Project Manager in owner meetings, progress reporting, and change management
• Coordinate inspections with AHJs and ensure all permits, testing, and commissioning activities are managed proactively

Qualifications

Required

• 3+ years of field construction experience, with a minimum of 1 years as a Superintendent on commercial projects
• Demonstrated experience managing projects of $25M or greater in complexity and scope
• Deep knowledge of commercial construction methods, MEP coordination, structural systems, and building envelope
• Proficiency with Procore, Bluebeam, and scheduling software (Primavera P6 or MS Project)
• OSHA 30 certification (current)
• Strong communication skills — written, verbal, and in the field

Preferred

• Experience on healthcare, higher education, or large mixed-use projects
• Familiarity with Ohio building codes and Columbus-area AHJ requirements
• First Aid/CPR certification
• LEED AP or familiarity with sustainable construction practices

Work Environment

This is a full-time, field-based position. The Superintendent is expected to be on-site during all active working hours. Projects are primarily located in the Columbus metro area, with occasional work throughout Ohio.
