About the Position Administrative Coordinator in LAFLA’s Medical Legal Partnerships workgroup. The role supports patients in achieving optimal health by providing holistic legal advocacy and administrative coordination. The Organization LAFLA is a nonprofit law firm dedicated to increasing access to justice for the most underserved members of the Greater Los Angeles area. With more than 200 employees, including 100 attorneys, LAFLA provides free civil legal services and resources on a broad range of issues. It is the first and most experienced legal aid organization in the region, celebrating 95 years of service and helping over 100,000 people annually. LAFLA engages in impact litigation and collaborates with partners to enact systemic change. The Workgroup Medical Legal Partnerships (MLP) attorneys and paralegals advocate for patients across issues such as landlord/tenant, family law, immigration, government benefits, and re‑entry. The workgroup partners with healthcare professionals to identify legal barriers to optimal health. Position: Administrative Coordinator Location may be adjusted during employment. This full‑time role supports MLP’s mission through administrative excellence. Qualifications Computer proficient with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience interviewing individuals in crisis and/or assisting low‑income clients. Self‑motivated, organized, and able to manage a high‑volume caseload. Comfortable with case‑management systems and other technology. Commitment to social justice. Good written and oral communication skills. Ability to work independently. Spanish language skills (required). Team‑oriented and able to collaborate with staff, clients, and community organizations. Examples of Duties Responds to client calls, performs phone and in‑person intakes, screens clients for eligibility, and triages appropriate legal assistance. Works with advocates in clinic settings to increase legal services in the Long Beach community. Coordinates logistics and administrative aspects of projects, including updating forms, brochures, templates, and PowerPoint presentations. Maintains electronic and hard‑copy filing systems and appointment calendars; answers inquiries via email, phone, or in person. Manages case‑management system data entry (case opening and closing). Opens and closes cases in real time. Assists with managing attorney case loads and related administrative tasks. Answers inquiries about legal procedures and status of cases under supervision. Under supervisory oversight, conducts intake and handles cases involving landlord/tenant, family law, government benefits, and immigration issues. Collaborates with paralegals and attorneys to provide holistic services and referrals. Translates routine correspondence to Spanish and provides interpretation of legal documents and court forms.
