SPECIAL EDUCATION PARAEDUCATOR

Location Mountain View High School , Vancouver, WA Starting Date Aug 24, 2026 Position Status Student Support Position Duration Permanent Hours 6 hours per day (8:45 a.m.‑3:15 p.m., 30 min unpaid lunch). 3.83 hours on early‑release days (8:45 a.m.‑1:05 p.m., 30 min unpaid). Reporting To Special Education Instructor / Building Principal Responsibility Overview Under the supervision of the Special Education teacher or IEP manager, the paraeducator will provide special education services and support to elementary and secondary students eligible for special education. Essential Functions Provide assistance with one‑to‑one and group instruction per the IEP. Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents. Assist in establishing a learning environment consistent with course goals. Collect and evaluate student progress data to monitor IEP goals. Assist in administering and scoring formal and informal assessments. Implement behavioral management strategies as directed by the teacher. Organize and prepare instructional materials. Assist students with their bathroom, feeding, and toileting needs, including lifting and changing when required. Handle body fluids and maintain personal hygiene for students. Assist with assistive technology and physical aids such as wheelchairs, walkers, and lifts. Coordinate services with related providers (OT, PT, SLP). Attend required training sessions to remain current on student needs. Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Minimum age of 18 with a high school diploma or equivalent. Paraeducator Employment Requirements: Pass a score of 455+ on the ETS ParaPro assessment, or Hold an Associate Degree or higher, or Earn 72 quarter credits (48 semester credits) at the 100 level or higher, or Complete a Paraeducator Apprenticeship Program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council. Basic typing/keyboarding skills. Experience working with students in academic or special education settings. Demonstrated communication skills with students, staff, and parents. Ability to supervise and support students. Flexibility, initiative, and cooperation. Confidentiality of sensitive information. Willingness to learn computer and assistive technology skills. Ability to work under constant interruption. Physical strength to handle potentially aggressive behavior. Positive teamwork and relationship building skills.
