Payroll Specialist

Key Responsibilities

Process multi-state payroll for hourly employees, ensuring accurate and timely payroll administration.
Manage payroll adjustments, including retroactive payments, manual checks, and payroll corrections.
Administer and maintain wage garnishments, child support orders, tax levies, and other court-ordered deductions.
Review payroll practices and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour regulations.
Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure adherence to organizational policies and compliance requirements.
Respond to agency requests and inquiries related to child support, DSS documentation, and payroll matters.
Serve as a primary point of contact for employee payroll questions, including direct deposit, self-service portal access, tax forms, and pay discrepancies.
Perform payroll reporting, audits, reconciliations, and data analysis on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, and year-end basis.
Assist with general ledger support, payroll account reconciliations, and payroll-related journal entries.
Respond to employee and management inquiries regarding payroll transactions, W-2s, garnishments, and tax documentation.
Coordinate distribution of payroll-related resources and employee payment solutions as needed.
Support special payroll projects and process improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of payroll processing experience for 1k+ employees.
- Experience processing payroll for a multi-state workforce.
- Experience with ADP Workforce Now, ADP Vantage, or similar payroll systems.
- Working knowledge of federal and state wage, hour, and payroll tax regulations.
- Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, and basic reporting functions.
- Strong attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet critical deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
