BUSINESS TAXES SPECIALIST I, BOARD OF EQUALIZATION

Business Taxes Specialist I – Board of Equalization (JC-523399). Salary range: $8,052.00 - $10,079.00 per month. Location: West Sacramento, CA. Job type: Permanent, full time. Telework: Hybrid. Job Summary Under the general supervision of a Business Taxes Administrator I, the Business Taxes Specialist I leads and independently conducts complex compliance and enforcement work for the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA). The specialist conducts licensing inspections, administrative seizures, non‑compliance citations, monitors courtroom disposition of citations, and may appear in court proceedings for CDTFA tax programs including cigarette and tobacco, sales tax, and cannabis. Responsibilities Conduct licensing inspections, administrative seizures and non‑compliance citations. Monitor courtroom disposition of citations issued and appear in court proceedings for CDTFA tax programs. Prepare inspection and seizure reports, conduct field observations, and identify interrelated fraud schemes. Coordinate enforcement activities with other governmental agencies. Travel at least 50% of the time, including overnight travel. Maintain mobile worker status, spending most days at various field locations. Meet security and background check requirements and complete PC 832 training during probation. Minimum Requirements Minimum qualifications are specified in the Business Taxes Specialist I, Board of Equalization classification specification. Working Conditions Partial telework may be available. Must be able to move/transport materials, including cannabis and tobacco products weighing up to 50 pounds. Work long and irregular hours, both in and out of the office and at various locations. May work in a high‑rise building. Exposure to cannabis, nicotine, and other related products deemed potentially hazardous.
