Police Officer Recruit

Position Overview The Glendale Police Department is recruiting entry‑level Police Officers committed to community safety and service. The role includes training in the police academy and participation in the department’s comprehensive training program. Essential Functions Provide outstanding customer service and uphold the highest ethical standards. Respond to calls for service regarding accidents, emergencies, crimes, threats and other incidents. Use community‑based policing philosophies to engage the community and solve problems collaboratively. Administer first aid, interview witnesses, suspects and victims, record statements, and prepare written reports. Apprehend suspects and enforce the law while operating a vehicle, pursuing suspects on foot, and performing self‑defense and arrest techniques. Enforce traffic laws, direct traffic, issue citations and warnings, investigate accident scenes. Investigate matters involving juveniles and consult appropriate authorities. Serve subpoenas, warrants, testify in court, manage evidence, and work with the City/District Attorney’s office. Perform duties in a safe and efficient manner and complete additional related tasks as needed. Qualifications Experience: None required. Education: High school graduation, state board certificate, GED, CHSPE, HiSET, CPP certificate, or equivalent. License/Certification: Valid Class C California driver’s license. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Exceptional customer service practices. Make independent judgments based on policy or procedure. Provide customer service to employees and vendors. Model ethical conduct. Handle angry or frightened persons calmly. Complete on‑job training and meet performance standards during probation. Resolve interpersonal conflicts. Apply community‑based policing and teamwork philosophy. Comprehend written English directions. Remain controlled in threatening situations. Write accurate reports based on field notes. Other Characteristics: Willingness to maintain a safe working environment. Willingness to work overtime as requested. Special Conditions: Must have good moral character with no felony or misdemeanor convictions involving moral turpitude. Medical/Psychological Standards: Must pass a pre‑placement medical examination and psychological evaluation. Hearing: Must meet city standards for hearing. Residency: Within 60 contiguous land miles of the Glendale Civic Center within four months of employment. Selection Process Complete the “Law Enforcement – Frontline National” exam via the National Testing Network by July 28 2026. Subject to background and physical agility testing.
