Details Mixed acuity PCU/MS Tele unit caring for medical oncology patients with approximately 24 PCU beds and 24 MS Tele beds High acuity patient population with a variety of diagnoses ranging from solid tumors to some blood cancers Rare pediatric patients may be present on the unit but are typically cared for by permanent staff Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention Uses B450 GE telemetry monitors, bladder scanners, Alaris pumps, PCA pumps, and continuous bladder irrigation equipment Epic charting system experience required 12-hour Day (7:00-19:30) or Night (19:00-7:30) shifts, 3x per week, with possible rotation between days and nights based on department needs Shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period based on staffing priorities Staffing ratios target 1:4-5 but may vary based on unit needs Weekend shifts are variable Required to float to units of equivalent or lower acuity level Requirements Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration BLS certification required; ACLS preferred Minimum 2 years of current inpatient nursing experience required in the specialty applying for, with consistent work in the last 12 months Oncology experience preferred but not required Chemotherapy competence not required; training available through a 2-day chemo course for interested candidates Epic EMR experience required Teaching hospital experience preferred Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a Manager/Director or formal leadership role and the second acceptable from a Charge RN; no coworker references accepted Additional Information Care for medical oncology patients with a variety of solid tumor and blood cancer diagnoses in a high acuity setting Skills utilized may include IV therapy, port access/management, central and peripheral line care, PICC line management, blood product administration, cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia management, and use of Rapid Response/Code teams Additional skills may include BiPAP/CPAP management, chest tube care, tracheostomy care, continuous bladder irrigation, heparin protocols, IV insulin protocols, and surgical drain management Opportunity for professional growth including chemotherapy administration training for interested candidates Willingness to learn and grow nursing practice is encouraged; previous travel experience preferred but not required, making this role open to first-time travelers Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting promptly after signing contract; those outside Ohio but within driving distance must travel to a fingerprinting location, while those at greater distances will receive a mailed fingerprinting packet Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment once they have been away from the facility for 6 months or more Current employees of any Ohio State University hospital location are ineligible to be hired as a traveler RTO must be requested and built into the contract at time of consideration, limited to 7 days or less Local candidates are accepted at the same rate American Traveler Job ID P-735104.
