Machine Assembler

The Machine Assembler builds custom machinery by accurately reading and interpreting technical documentation, positioning and assembling components, and ensuring each machine operates correctly and safely. This role involves hands-on mechanical and electrical assembly, use of a wide range of tools and equipment, and close collaboration with engineering to resolve assembly challenges.

Responsibilities

• Read, interpret, and follow engineering drawings, assembly drawings, blueprints, and schematics to assemble custom machines accurately.
• Assemble, install, and align components and sub-assemblies according to specifications, ensuring proper fit, function, and quality.
• Use hand tools and power tools to perform mechanical and electrical assembly tasks safely and efficiently.
• Fabricate parts as needed using machine shop equipment such as mills, lathes, and saws to support custom machine builds.
• Operate cranes and specialized equipment to lift, move, and position large or heavy components during assembly.
• Perform electrical wiring and basic electrical assembly in accordance with schematics and safety standards.
• Incorporate hydraulic and pneumatic components into machines, ensuring proper routing, connections, and functionality.
• Assist with welding tasks as needed to support machine assembly and structural integrity.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues during assembly and testing, identifying root causes and implementing solutions.
• Consult with engineering to resolve assembly problems, clarify design intent, and suggest improvements when appropriate.
• Verify that completed machines meet design specifications, quality standards, and operational requirements before release.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, following all safety procedures when using tools, equipment, and machinery.
• Support continuous improvement efforts by providing feedback on assembly processes, tooling, and documentation.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience in custom machine building in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read, interpret, and follow engineering drawings, assembly drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
• Hands-on experience using hand tools and power tools for mechanical and electrical assembly.
• Mechanical aptitude with experience in assembly, fitting, and alignment of components and sub-assemblies.
• Basic electrical knowledge, including wiring and interpreting electrical schematics.
• Troubleshooting skills for identifying and resolving mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues.
• Experience working in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Ability to safely operate cranes and other specialized assembly equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Two-year technical degree or equivalent technical education (preferred).
• Experience with welding in a manufacturing or industrial setting (preferred).
• Hands-on experience with hydraulics and pneumatic systems (preferred).
• Mechanical repair or mechanic experience, especially on industrial equipment (preferred).
• Forklift experience or certification (preferred).
• Comfort working with machine shop equipment such as mills, lathes, and saws.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with engineering and shop teams.
• Interest in growing skills and advancing through a structured career path.

Work Environment

The role is based in a clean, well-lit, and organized facility with a close-knit team of approximately 25 people across the shop and office. You will work with a variety of tools and equipment, including hand tools, power tools, mills, lathes, saws, cranes, forklifts, and other specialized machinery used for custom machine assembly. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., providing consistent daytime hours in a stable manufacturing environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saint Paul, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $29.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
