Client Overview:

Our client is a well-established real estate owner/operator with a growing portfolio of commercial and residential properties throughout New York. They are looking to add a Property Accountant to their accounting team due to continued growth. This is an excellent opportunity for a Property Accountant seeking long-term stability and career advancement within a collaborative environment.

Salary/Hourly Rate:

$70,000 - $90,000

Position Overview:

The Property Accountant will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting activities for an assigned portfolio of properties, including month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, and working closely with property management to ensure accurate financial records. The ideal Property Accountant is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable managing multiple priorities.

Responsibilities of the Property Accountant:

• Manage the full accounting cycle for an assigned portfolio of properties.
• Prepare monthly financial statements and complete month-end close.
• Record journal entries and perform bank and account reconciliations.
• Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Assist with budget preparation and variance analysis.
• Review CAM reconciliations, tenant billings, and lease-related accounting.
• Partner with property managers to resolve accounting issues and answer financial questions.
• Support year-end audits and other ad hoc accounting projects.

Required Experience/Skills for the Property Accountant:

• 2-5 years of experience as a Property Accountant or in a similar real estate accounting role.
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and month-end close.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple properties and meet deadlines.

Preferred Experience/Skills for the Property Accountant:

• Experience with Yardi, MRI, or another property management/accounting system.
• Experience supporting commercial and/or multifamily real estate portfolios.
• Previous experience as a Property Accountant in a fast-paced real estate environment is preferred.

Education Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
