Certified Surgical TechnologistThe Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) is responsible for the instruments, supplies, and equipment required for surgical procedure. Prior to procedures, the CST prepares the necessary supplies according to the needs of the surgeon for the case. The CST also monitors the PAR levels of all instruments during the operation and focuses on preserving the sterile field.Job DescriptionCollects supplies needed for surgical procedure and checks to ensure qualityPerforms the surgical scrub; dons gown and glovesPrepares instruments for procedure using sterile techniquesPerforms initial instrument, sharps and sponge counts with the teamAssists team with gowning and glovingAssists with the draping of the patient and establishing the sterile fieldSecures tubing, cords, and other sterile accessoriesAnticipates and prepares any additional supplies that may be required during the procedureForesees the needs of the surgeon and passes instruments/supplies during procedure as neededMeasures and passes medications, hemostatic agents and irrigation solutions used during procedureHolds retractors or instruments as directedCoordinates the camera or changes out robotic arms/instruments during endoscopic surgery as directedMaintains highest standard of sterile technique during the procedurePerforms additional counts when requiredPrepares sterile dressings and/or immobilization devicesPrepares and passes of specimen(s) as appropriateCleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilizationAssists team with terminal cleaning of roomAssists in prepping the OR for next patientParticipate in debriefing and quality improvement plans to ensure quality patient careJob RequirementsHigh School graduate or equivalentGraduate of approved Surgical Technologist School with certificationCurrent Basic Cardiac Life Support CertificationKnowledge, skills and abilities to scrub all cases and work SPDSterile ProcessingSpine, Orthopedic and Pain Management experience a mustRelevant knowledge of surgical procedures, techniques, and patient careKnowledge of HIPAA and compliance policiesStrong analytical skills and technical skills relating to OR prep; ability to respond to needs as they arise in the ORAbility to read and communicate effectively in English. Additional languages preferred.Ability to communicate in a professional manner-- able to counsel/teach customers, train co-workers, and positively contribute to marketing/public relations. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from patients, regulatory agencies, or members of the medical and business community.Proficient computer skills- ability to accurately update and manage and electronic healthcare recordHours and Working ConditionsOur ASCs are located in the DFW area (Precinct ASC in Hurst, TX, Frisco ASC in Frisco, TX and Park ASC in Plano, TX). The ASCs are open Monday thru Friday with hours of operation subject to change, dependent on surgery schedule. Hazards: Occasional contact with communicable diseases, electrical equipment, blood borne pathogens, etc. Personal protective equipment: Sterile OR scrubs and PPE are provided.
