RN Clinical - 9 EW Surgical Oncology Telemetry - Full Time 12 Hour Days (Non-Exempt) (Union)

Job Overview As an integral part of the interdisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing process to provide therapeutic care to patients. The RN is accountable for coordinating patient care and education in a compassionate, supportive, and therapeutic environment. Key Responsibilities Complete Nursing Assessment upon patient admission, at each shift, and upon change of condition; complete patient acuity by 0200/1400 daily. Interpret assessment information and formulate Nursing Diagnoses. Develop individualized Plans of Care, document expected outcomes, and update daily. Administer medication and IV therapy as prescribed and complete patient care procedures per policy. Delegate tasks based on scope of practice and competency; serve as patient advocate. Manage restraint use per policy, perform alternative non‑restraint measures, and complete Restraint Audit Form each shift. Document data on all flow sheets: Admission Assessment, Pain scale, Daily sheet, Restraint flow sheet, Diabetes flow sheet, Educational flow sheet, Kardex Care Plan, Risk Assessment, MAR, Equipment, Transfer Forms, Belonging Tracking Form, and complete 12h/24h chart checks. Provide patient/family education and orientation; use MICROMEDEX information. Collaborate with Case Manager and physician for discharge planning; ensure all paperwork is completed. Utilize patient care equipment safely per manufacturer guidelines (IV pump, feeding pump, PCA pump, epidural pump, compression device, VAC, heating pad). Communicate effectively with all healthcare team members; complete shift‑to‑shift reports, physician rounds, MDP rounds, hand‑off reports, and facility e‑mail. Manage time efficiently, prioritize responsibilities, complete meals on time, and finish shifts timely. Adhere to regulatory agency requirements: National Patient Safety Goals, patient identifiers, unapproved abbreviations, Universal Protocol, hand‑off medication reconciliation, clinical alarms, hazardous waste, biohazard, sharps, HIPAA, OSHA, JCAHO readiness, correct body mechanics, electrical safety, infection control, hand washing. Manage medical and surgical patients: THA, TKA, spinal surgery, cystic fibrosis, abdominal organ transplants, hepatic encephalopathy. Provide care in Intensive Care or step‑down units: manage critically ill patients, advanced therapeutic modalities, hemodynamic monitoring, CRRT, central lines, ventricular assist devices, etc. Care of patients in Step‑down/Telemetry units: advanced monitoring, ventilator care, arterial/CVP lines, ventricular assist devices, lumbar drains. Conduct dialysis treatments: initiate, terminate, maintain safety checks, document, perform machine maintenance, coordinate orders. Provide care for psychiatric patients: therapeutic interactions, milieu, contraband assessment, lock‑door monitoring, psychotropic medication administration, treatment planning, visit logging, coordination with Mental Health agencies. Implement behavioral restraint and seclusion: de‑escalation, prompt monitoring, physician assessment within 1 hour, continuous monitoring, obtain physician orders, notify Manager, contact significant other, debrief with patient post‑incident. Complete quality measures: identify Core Measure criteria patients, document Core Measures, data collection, process improvements for Nurse Sensitive Quality Indicators. Participate in professional development: hospital, nursing activities, committees, research, peer review publications. Perform additional duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent; prior to 12/2019 grandfathered. Minimum 1 year acute inpatient hospital RN experience in the United States. Excellent communication skills in English (reading, writing, speaking). Knowledge of medical procedures and conditions; ability to perform duties such as whole blood collection and apheresis procedures per policies. Commitment to excellence in patient care and customer service. Ability to work independently with minimal direction and supervision. Preferred Qualifications Experience on surgical units, ICU, and telemetry. Specialty certifications (if applicable). Licenses & Certifications Registered Nurse – RN (California Board of Registered Nursing). Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association. Fire Life Safety Training (Los Angeles City) – required within 30 days of hire. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – American Heart Association; required for ICU, step‑down, telemetry—must obtain within 180 days of orientation if not previously held.
