Accounts Payable Specialist Full Time Non-Exempt Full-Time Glendale-Corporate Offices, Glendale, CA, US Salary Range: $26.51 to $29.57 per hour Position Summary: LAFCU's Accounts Payable Specialist is responsible for assisting in analyzing, monitoring, and balancing the general ledger clearing accounts. This person must be knowledgeable in daily and monthly operations of credit union accounting and the rules and regulations governing the accounting principles to facilitate the job functions and duties. The position reports to the Assistant Controller in the Accounting Department. Responsibilities Accounts Payable & Disbursements (40%) Process accounts payable, including scanning, indexing, reviewing, issuing, and mailing checks Process corporate check stop payments in a timely manner Prepare and send unpresented check notification letters to members Understand expense GL accounts & cost allocation Track and monitor the top 20 vendors Prepare and submit annual IRS information returns, including Forms 1099-NEC and Form 1099-MISC Perform expense variance analysis, including actual-to-actual and actual-to-budget comparisons General Accounting & Reconciliations (20%) Analyze, monitor, and reconcile general ledger clearing accounts Reconcile the FedLine account on a daily basis Prepare and post journal vouchers for Accounting and other departments Assist Accountant and higher level staff with accounting assignments and reconciliations Operational & Administrative Support (15%) Open and distribute Accounting Department mail Prepare and record Accounting Department meeting minutes Update and maintain accounting procedures related to assigned job functions Communicate operational and accounting information to and from the Assistant Controller and AVP, Accounting Ensure adherence to all department and credit union policies and procedures Comply with all applicable accounting principles, rules, and regulations Comply with all Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) requirements Customer Service & Internal Support (10%) Support the Credit Union’s Commitment to Service Respond to internal and external inquiries or complaints promptly and professionally, in person or by telephone Interact professionally with internal and external personnel at all organizational levels Special Projects & Process Improvement (5%) Assist the Assistant Controller and AVP, Accounting with special projects as directed Provide recommendations to improve departmental processes and efficiency Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications Three to five years of similar or related experience Two-year college degree or completion of a specialized certification, licensing, or training courses conducted by vendors, or job‑specific skills acquired through an apprenticeship program Experience in first‑level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation; ability to handle confidentiality and discretion with diplomacy and tact Excellent oral and written communication skills, sound judgment, attention to detail, and strong writing ability Thorough knowledge of debit and credit concepts and operational transaction rules and regulations Ability to sit for at least 6 hours per day (90% sitting/10% walking); fine dexterity and computer keyboard use for long periods; use of telephone system; visual and hearing proficiency; repetitive use of hands Compensation and Benefits Minimum and maximum base salary range: $26.51 to $38.75 per hour in California Target starting base hourly rate: $26.51 to $29.57 This compensation and benefits information is based on Los Angeles Federal Credit Union's good faith estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future Starting base salary within the range will depend on a variety of factors, including relevant prior experience, education, skills and expertise Office/Hybrid Remote LAFCU is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
