Business Development Representative

Business Development Representative Join us as we work to create a thriving ecosystem that delivers accessible, high-quality, and sustainable healthcare for all. The Business Development Representative plays a key role in introducing prospective healthcare organizations to athenahealth by serving as the first point of contact in the sales process. This hybrid position is based in Boston, MA; Austin, TX; or Atlanta, GA, with a minimum of three days per week in the office. This role reports to the Business Development Manager. Team The Business Development Representative team supports the early stages of the sales lifecycle by engaging healthcare practices that express interest in athenahealth's services. The team partners closely with Sales Executives to ensure timely follow-up and accurate qualification of inbound inquiries. Essential Job Responsibilities Respond to inbound sales inquiries from medical practices in a timely and professional manner. Engage prospective customers through phone and email outreach to understand their needs and interests. Communicate the value of athenahealth services clearly and accurately to prospective customers. Qualify and nurture inbound leads based on defined criteria and sales readiness. Document interactions and update prospect information in CRM systems. Collaborate with Sales Executives by transferring qualified leads and sharing relevant context. Follow established sales processes and messaging while maintaining a positive customer experience. Use available AI‑powered tools to improve productivity, support learning, and enhance the quality of customer interactions. Additional Job Responsibilities Participate in onboarding, training, and ongoing development activities related to sales and healthcare technology. Stay informed about athenahealth offerings, healthcare industry trends, and customer needs. Contribute feedback to improve outreach processes, messaging, and customer experience. Support team initiatives and projects related to sales operations or process improvement. Maintain compliance with data privacy and communication standards. Expected Education & Experience Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience. 6 months to 1 year of experience in sales, customer service, or a related field is preferred but not required. Basic understanding of sales and customer service principles. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in written and verbal formats. Experience managing multiple tasks and priorities effectively. Ability to listen actively and ask thoughtful questions to understand customer needs. Interest in healthcare, technology, or SaaS environments. Willingness to learn new tools, processes, and technologies, including AI‑enabled productivity tools. Expected Compensation $36,000 - $62,000 base salary range. Base pay depends on experience, knowledge, skills, and geographical market rates. Total rewards include discretionary bonus plan, variable compensation plan, and equity plans.
