Gracious Health Medical Hospital is seeking a dedicated and skilled Physician Assistant to join our expanding Liver Transplant department. This full-time position based in Brookhaven, New York, allows for impactful involvement in both inpatient and outpatient care settings, as well as in the operating room (OR). The successful candidate will play a vital role in managing the care of patients undergoing liver transplants, ensuring they receive the highest standard of pre-operative and post-operative care.

Work Environment

The work setting is onsite within our state-of-the-art Surgical Center. This role requires a 5-day work week with 8-hour shifts, Monday to Friday, along with on-call responsibilities each month to ensure comprehensive patient coverage.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate and treat patients presenting with both acute and chronic health issues related to liver transplant procedures.
• Conduct thorough patient assessments, including acquiring detailed medical histories and performing comprehensive physical examinations to discern normal and abnormal findings.
• Perform or requisition necessary diagnostic studies to inform treatment decisions effectively, ensuring timely care for patients.
• Administer medications and respond to prescription needs, adhering to established protocols and securing necessary approvals from supervising physicians when required.
• Order and collect specimens for a variety of laboratory tests and therapeutic procedures, facilitating a comprehensive approach to patient care.
• Oversee and arrange for supplemental therapies, including physical, occupational, and respiratory therapy services.
• Develop surgical procedures under supervision, acting as a first or second assistant in the OR as required.
• Assist with obtaining informed consent and manage all necessary documentation related to hospital admissions and discharges.
• Participate in investigational studies when directed and obtain the necessary permissions to order tests or medications associated with ongoing clinical trials.
• Facilitate communication and collaboration among interdisciplinary teams to enhance the care provided to both inpatients and outpatients.
• Engage in quality improvement initiatives, ensuring adherence to clinical guidelines and regulatory requirements.
• Provide patient education and counseling tailored to individual needs to promote successful health outcomes.

Patient Population / Client Focus

The Physician Assistant will work primarily with patients facing liver and abdominal disorders, many of whom are candidates for liver transplantation. Understanding their unique challenges—including age-specific needs—is crucial to delivering effective care. Your role will directly impact patients' recovery journeys and overall health outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution.
• Successful completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc.
• Current Physician Assistant State License.
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and a valid DEA registration.

Preferred Experience

• A minimum of one year of experience as a Physician Assistant, preferably in surgical or transplant services.
• Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and experience in operating room procedures are highly desirable.

Compensation and Benefits
