Job Title: RN - MedSurg/Tele Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years Med/Tele RN experience required License: Registered Nurse License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - General Med/Tele skillset - Stroke experience - Cardiac rhythm interpretation - Trach care - PIV starts - Chest tube management - NGT placement - Drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, foley insertion/management) - PCA pumps - Mobilizing patients post-op - Skilled in assessing and managing acute and chronic pain, including with those with a history of substance abuse - Comfortable with post-op neuro and spine care, including providing education to patients and families - Medication gtt management to include cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, IVF Description: This position involves working with a diverse patient population. The patients are typically high acuity with conditions such as spinal surgery, stroke, seizure, myasthenia gravis, and brain tumors. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-6 based on acuity, with potential for increased ratios during surge staffing. Assistance is available from nursing assistants, a charge nurse, and a respiratory therapist. All monitoring is performed by nurses who read the telemetry monitors and respond accordingly. The unit utilizes an electronic medical record system and various patient care technologies for monitoring and support. There is a strong emphasis on teamwork, positive attitude, and openness to real-time feedback. The focus is on providing high-quality care while preventing complications such as CAUTI, HAPI, falls, and CLABSI. Nurses are expected to float within the healthcare region and scope of practice as needed. The position requires flexible scheduling, including weekend rotations and holiday expectations. travelers are expected to work a certain percentage of holidays and manage time-off requests accordingly.
