Business Development Executive

Overview As the Regional Business Development Executive at Schuff Steel, you'll perform a critical role to overall company success in driving revenue growth and increasing profitability through strategic sales initiatives in the Southern California region. This role is focused on establishing and expanding relationships in the commercial structural steel and construction markets, with an emphasis on large, complex multi-million-dollar projects. You will collaborate cross-functionally with preconstruction, estimating, engineering, MBE, marketing, and proposal coordination teams to deliver results and consistently meet or exceed annual sales goals that align with the long-term vision of the company. This high-visibility role positions you as the face of the company in the market. #LI-KF1 Responsibilities Core Responsibilities: Drawing Quality Review Review shop drawings and erection drawings to ensure clarity, completeness, and adherence to internal quality standards. Verify that drawings contain all required dimensions and information necessary for fabrication and erection. Dimension and Layout Verification Confirm that running dimensions are properly applied and clearly shown. Ensure all required dimensions are present, accurate, and logically placed to support fabrication and assembly. Part Identification Verify that all part marks are clearly shown, properly labeled, and consistently referenced throughout the drawings. Welding Information Review Confirm that weld symbols are correctly specified, accurate, and clearly displayed in accordance with drawing standards. Drawing Standards Compliance Ensure proper naming and classification of main member work types. Verify that drawing formatting, labeling, and annotation follow company detailing standards. Issue Identification and Feedback Identify drawing discrepancies, omissions, or quality concerns and communicate findings to the detailing team for correction. Provide clear and constructive feedback to help improve drawing quality. Process Adherence Follow established drawing review procedures and checklists. Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying recurring quality issues and suggesting improvements to drawing standards. Communication and Documentation Clearly communicate/document relevant issues and collaborate with all upstream and downstream stakeholders (This job description is not an exclusive or exhaustive list of all job responsibilities and functions that an employee in this position may be asked to perform. Duties and responsibilities can be changed, expanded, reduced or delegated by management to meet the business needs of the company) Qualifications Work Experience Five (5) or more years related experience in the coordination of structural steel projects. Associates degree or higher, and/or training from an approved and accredited technical school in engineering or detailing/drafting may substitute for the required experience. Education/Training High School Diploma or Equivilent Specialized Knowledge Ability to read and interpret shop, construction, and design drawings. General understanding and knowledge of basic drafting skills, 3D modeling software/Tekla practices, fabrication and erection standards, standard technical terminology, common structural steel practices, and drafting room procedures. Experience with structural steel shop drawings, erection drawings, or construction detailing preferred. Understanding of dimensioning practices, weld symbols, and fabrication drawing requirements. Strong attention to detail and ability to identify errors or inconsistencies in technical drawings. Familiarity with detailing software and drawing standards is preferred. Work Environment Position requires as many hours needed to fulfill the daily and weekly obligations required to carry out the functions. Working long days including evenings and weekends can be required for this position. This position is generally indoors in a climate-controlled office.
