Human Resources (HR) Generalist

Job Description Position: Employee Relations Specialist. The employee relations specialist will act as the central point of contact for employee‑relation issues and concerns, serving as a subject‑matter expert who coaches and advises people managers on progressive discipline and related matters. Position Details The specialist will collaborate with HR Business Partners (HRBPs) and senior management to develop and execute HR strategies that enhance employee job satisfaction, productivity, and retention. Daily duties include conducting fact‑finding interviews and investigations, preparing documentation for employment claims, and tracking disciplinary actions related to grievances, absence, performance management, and organizational changes. The role also involves working with the legal and compliance departments on complex employee‑relations issues and maintaining a positive employee‑relations environment. Essential Functions and Responsibilities 35% – Gather information and prepare documentation for employee‑relation issues; work with people managers to prepare progressive‑discipline documentation. 35% – Conduct fact‑finding interviews and investigations; collaborate with legal counsel and compliance as needed. 15% – Provide expert advice, coaching, and assistance to management to address a range of conduct and performance issues, participating in discipline meetings to ensure clarity of the message delivered. 15% – Interpret findings, develop strategies to resolve issues, keep managers informed of commitments made, and update HRBPs on the status of employee‑relations cases. Education and Experience Requirements Bachelor’s degree required; a qualification in Human Resource Management is preferred. Minimum of five years’ experience in HR/Employee Relations, with a track record of working in a diverse environment (exempt and non‑exempt workforce). Candidates must possess thorough knowledge of Federal and California laws and skill in applying HR laws, principles, and practices to manage employee relations, discipline, appeals, grievances, performance‑based actions, and unfair labor practice charges. Familiarity with HR Shared Services, HRIS systems, processes, and policies is required. Key Skills and Competencies Ability to work in a fast‑paced, matrixed environment and juggle multiple competing tasks with a sense of urgency. Strong business acumen and client/customer focus, with a collaborative style and the ability to adapt quickly. Capacity to handle confidential materials, employee files, salary information, organizational change, grievances, and performance reviews. Excellent writing skills for composing and drafting correspondence such as disciplinary and performance‑based action letters, proposals, and decisions for suspensions, removals, performance improvement plans, reductions in grade and pay, etc. Ability to work independently, take initiative, and complete tasks by deadlines. Strong communication and conflict‑resolution skills, with the capacity to handle difficult conversations and build authentic relationships. Professional Knowledge and Tools Strong knowledge of SAP and proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Familiarity with HR Shared Services and HRIS systems is essential.
