About the Role
Robert Half is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accounts Payable Specialist for a contract opportunity with a manufacturing company in Stratford, Connecticut. This position is ideal for an accounting professional with strong accounts payable experience who enjoys working in a high-volume environment and managing vendor relationships while ensuring accurate and timely payment processing.
The Accounts Payable Specialist will play a critical role in supporting the accounting department by overseeing the full-cycle accounts payable process and maintaining accurate financial records.
Responsibilities
- Process high-volume vendor invoices accurately and efficiently
- Review, code, and enter invoices into the accounting system
- Match invoices with purchase orders and receiving documentation
- Research and resolve invoice discrepancies and payment issues
- Prepare and process check runs, ACH transactions, and wire payments
- Reconcile vendor statements and maintain vendor accounts
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with vendors and internal departments
- Assist with month-end closing activities, including accounts payable reconciliations and accruals
- Maintain accurate electronic and physical accounts payable records
- Monitor outstanding payables and ensure timely payment processing
- Assist with audit requests and provide supporting documentation as needed
- Support accounting management with special projects and process improvement initiatives
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
- 3+ years of accounts payable experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
- Experience processing high volumes of invoices and vendor payments
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software/ERP systems
- Strong understanding of accounts payable procedures and general accounting principles
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience within a manufacturing or distribution environment
- Familiarity with purchase orders, inventory-related invoices, and three-way matching
- Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar platforms
- Experience supporting audits and month-end close activities
Schedule
- Full-time, Monday through Friday
- Standard business hours
- Contract assignment with potential for extension based on business needs
