Principal Scientist, Protein Engineering

Xaira Therapeutics seeks a Principal Scientist to lead protein engineering efforts in AI-driven therapeutic discovery. The role combines hands-on experimental work with scientific leadership, partnering with computational designers to develop protein and antibody therapeutics against challenging targets.
Responsibilities
- Define scientific strategy for therapeutic programs and develop AI-driven discovery strategies
- Guide computational protein design campaigns and interpret structural insights for optimization
- Lead binder discovery and screening campaigns, prioritizing strategies and identifying hits
- Design, produce, and characterize therapeutic proteins and antibodies using laboratory techniques
- Mentor junior staff and oversee cross-functional program communication and CRO management
Requirements
- Ph.D. in molecular biology, biochemistry, or related field
- Deep expertise in protein engineering and antibody format development
- Strong knowledge of developability metrics and biophysical characterization
- Demonstrated ability to lead scientific strategy and mentor junior scientists
- Experience designing and executing protein optimization campaigns
- Proficiency with chromatographic and biophysical assay techniques
