2026-2027 Music Teacher @ Bush Elementary Starting Date: Aug 3, 2026 Job Description Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth through the study and engagement in music. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Music preferred from an accredited college or university Valid Texas teaching certificate for music and level assigned ESL Certification preferred or required within two (2) years of employment for teachers hired in 2010-11 school year Knowledge of subjects assigned General knowledge of design and delivery issues related to alignment for best results in student achievement Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Student teaching or approved internship experience Major Responsibilities and Duties Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district’s curriculum program. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect accommodations for individual student needs. Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP). Cooperate with other staff members for planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements. Plan and supervise purposeful assignments of teacher aides and volunteers. Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process. Assist students in analyzing and improving study methods and habits. Consistently assess student achievement through formal and informal assessments and use results to plan instructional activities. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned; sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal. Demonstrate proficient musical skills within the classroom setting. Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials. Participate in district-defined music activities and exhibitions. Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior. Classroom Management and Organization Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students. Manage student behavior and administer discipline according to board policies, administrative regulations, and IEPs. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Keep informed and comply with all safety precautions pertaining to music supplies and instruments. Communication Present a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district. Establish and maintain open communications by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly. Articulate the district’s mission and goals in the areas of assigned responsibilities to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission. Demonstrate awareness of district and community needs and initiate activities to meet identified needs. Use appropriate techniques for community and parent involvement. Professional Growth and Development Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Comply with federal and state laws, state board regulations, UIL rules, and board policy in the music area. Policy, Reports, and Law Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers. Keep informed and comply with all district guidelines for music. Attend all meetings as requested to review, create, and revise music curriculum, policies, procedures, and activities. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required. Adhere to district employee/department/campus handbooks, board policies, AISD procedures, district Code of Conduct, Texas Educator’s Code of Ethics, and all applicable laws. Other Duties Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet current and future needs. Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities Assigned teacher aides and student teachers. Evaluation Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Board’s policy and the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS). Mental, Physical, and Environmental Demands Tools/Equipment: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals. Posture: Standing, prolonged sitting, occasional kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting. Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; may also require climbing stairs and reaching over head. Lifting: Moderate lifting and carrying up to 15 pounds; occasional heavy lifting up to 45 pounds. Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent district-wide travel; all campuses are temperature controlled with hard surface floors. Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress.
