Qualifications/Skills Education/Certification Bachelor's degree in a related field. Valid Texas Teacher Certificate or out-of-state Teaching Certificate appropriate for the position. ESL Certification required during the first year if not already obtained. Content exam and Science of Teaching Reading exam requirements met, if applicable. Certification must meet requirements for becoming and remaining qualified for this position in accordance with Federal and/or State law. Special Knowledge/Skills Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Proficient in the effective use of technology. Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior. Major Duties and Responsibilities Instructional Strategies Adhere to the district's philosophy of instruction; develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the district curriculum program and provide written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that accommodate student learning styles; present subject matter according to the Texas Education Agency guidelines, board policies, and administrative regulations. Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities; collaborate with the special education teacher to modify curricula for special education students per Individual Education Plan (IEP) guidelines. Collaborate with other staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods per district requirements; plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s); use technology to enhance the teaching/learning process. Student Growth and Development Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits; conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned; sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal. Serve as a positive role model for students and support the district mission. Classroom Management and Organization Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students; manage behavior per the Student Code of Conduct and handbook. Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities; assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials. Communication Maintain open communication by holding conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers; maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly. Professional Growth and Development Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills; keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Working Conditions Mental Demands Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. The position requires regular in-person interaction with the public. Physical Demands Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
