PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Assistant Principal is responsible for cultivating and maintaining a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment for all students in grades Preschool through 8. This role focuses on strengthening school culture through proactive student support, implementation of PBIS systems, attendance initiatives, parent engagement programming, and coordination of school-wide events.

The Assistant Principal works closely with school leadership, teachers, families, and community partners to ensure students feel safe, supported, and connected to their school community. The position emphasizes restorative practices, proactive behavior supports, and strong partnerships with families to help every student succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead initiatives that foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful school culture for students in Preschool through 8th grade.
  • Promote and reinforce school-wide expectations for behavior, respect, ownership, accountability, and responsibility.
  • Serve as a visible and active presence throughout the school building during arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, and transitions.
  • Collaborate with staff to support a safe and welcoming learning environment for all students.
  • Coordinate and lead the implementation of the school's PBIS framework.
  • Monitor PBIS data and collaborate with staff to identify trends and implement targeted interventions.
  • Facilitate PBIS team meetings and support staff in consistent implementation of behavior expectations and recognition systems.
  • Plan and implement PBIS celebrations, incentives, and recognition programs that reinforce positive student behavior.
  • Support teachers and staff in managing student behavior using restorative and developmentally appropriate approaches.
  • Respond to behavioral incidents and assist with investigations, documentation, and follow-up.
  • Implement interventions for students with ongoing behavioral needs in collaboration with administrators, counselors, and special education staff.
  • Maintain accurate records of disciplinary actions in accordance with Illinois School Code and district policies.
  • Communicate clearly with families regarding behavior concerns and collaborate on solutions.
  • Maintain a safe school environment by coordinating safety protocols and procedures.
  • Assist with emergency preparedness planning, drills, and safety training.
  • Investigate incidents involving student safety concerns and ensure appropriate follow-up.
  • Work collaboratively with administration and district personnel on safety initiatives.
  • Monitor student attendance and identify patterns of chronic absenteeism.
  • Work with families to address attendance barriers and improve student engagement.
  • Collaborate with school staff and community resources to support students with attendance challenges.
  • Coordinate attendance incentive programs and outreach initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the principal, teachers, counselors, and support staff to address student needs.
  • Participate in leadership teams, school improvement planning, and culture initiatives.
  • Support professional development for staff related to PBIS, restorative practices, and student engagement strategies.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices.
  • Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational and data analysis skills related to behavior and attendance.
  • Leadership experience in school climate or student support initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or related field.
  • Professional Educator License (PEL) with required endorsements or ability to obtain appropriate credentials as required by the district.
  • Experience working with elementary and middle school students (PreK 8) preferred.
  • Knowledge of PBIS, restorative practices, and positive behavior management strategies.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, time management and organizational skills.

SALARY RANGE
$75,000-$85,000
