Outreach Lab Assistant III-P - Clinical Lab Offsite PSCS Multi Site - Full Time, Day - (8 HRS)

Overview Under the direction of a supervisor, responsible for accessioning, receiving, specimen processing, and phlebotomy. Performs non‑technical laboratory duties such as responding to patient and physician inquiries, forwarding test results and distributing reports, sample preparation, and equipment and machinery monitoring. Responsibilities Access patient information into Laboratory Information System(s); check all requests for proper and accurate patient information, consult with supervisor or technologist if a request is problematic, and notify physician, nursing unit, clinic, etc. if the sample received is inappropriate or compromised. Adhere to all safety/health regulatory and state/federal legal requirements and the policies, operating procedures, and Service Standards of the hospital. Assist in routine monitoring of laboratory equipment and temperature‑controlled units, reporting any equipment problems or irregularities when temperature readings are outside assigned acceptable ranges. Maintain assigned logs and records for all laboratory transactions and information in accordance with departmental and regulatory requirements. Perform all patient draws in a timely and efficient manner, following laboratory policy for all standard draw requests. Perform other duties as assigned. Perform venipunctures and skin punctures to obtain blood specimens from patients according to approved laboratory procedures; validate patient information, confirm patient identification, and obtain specimens using proper age‑specific and sample‑type techniques and equipment. Provide training and orientation to new Lab Assistants; orient new employees to general lab procedures and train them on non‑technical duties. Receive and process all specimens following approved laboratory procedures; ensure patient samples are distributed to appropriate areas or routed to other hospital sections as required. Resolve problems encountered in routine work using knowledge of department processes, protocols, and fundamentals of services provided by the laboratory. Education Qualifications High School Diploma or GED equivalent Experience Qualifications 1 year of directly related experience Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to foster effective working relationships and build consensus. Ability to organize, prioritize, multi‑task, and adapt to changing priorities. Ability to perform basic mathematics. Ability to speak and write English effectively at a level appropriate for the job. Knowledge of computer systems and software used in the functional area. Pay Scale Base pay generally starts at $38.91 – $43.82 per hour. Final salary will be based on internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
