A growing public accounting firm is seeking an Accounting & Billing Specialist to support its Controller and leadership team with daily accounting functions and firmwide billing operations. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working behind the scenes to keep financial operations running smoothly while collaborating with professionals across the firm.

Key Responsibilities

Billing & Accounts Receivable

• Prepare, review, and finalize client invoices.
• Monitor work-in-progress (WIP), unbilled time, expenses, and client retainers.
• Collaborate with Partners and Managers to ensure timely and accurate billing.
• Process billing adjustments, write-ups, write-downs, and credits.
• Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding invoices.
• Maintain accurate billing records and assist with monthly billing cycles.

Accounting & Month-End Support

• Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, expense coding, and daily accounting activities.
• Prepare and record journal entries while assisting with general ledger maintenance.
• Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and balance sheet accounts.
• Support monthly and quarterly close processes, including accruals and variance analysis.
• Record revenue-related entries and assist with billing-related accounting.
• Support year-end close, audits, and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
• 35+ years of experience in accounting, billing, accounts payable, or accounts receivable.
• Experience within a public accounting firm or professional services environment is strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with work-in-progress (WIP), retainers, utilization, realization, and project-based revenue recognition.
• Experience using time and billing software or practice management systems.
• Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks Online.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including lookups, pivot tables, and reconciliations.
