Database Manager Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a Database Manager to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Strive to optimize the performance and cost of all systems related to the data warehouse;
- Partner with leadership in the company to help support data-driven decision making;
- Monitor performance and completion of ETL processes, constantly attempt to optimize and improve ETL operations;
- Develop reliable ETL processes to bring company data sources into an OLAP-focused data warehouse optimized for analytics and dashboarding;
- Ensure all systems related to the data warehouse are secure and that database backup and redundancy best practices are followed;
- Work with Data Scientists and Business Intelligence Analysts to assess SQL jobs with an emphasis on optimization opportunities;
- Develop overall dimensional model for the data warehouse;
- Responsible for development and maintenance of company data dictionary as well as documentation of data warehousing architecture;
- Ensure 99% uptime for data warehouse and scale warehouse systems as necessary to support demand and business growth;
- Designing and implementing database and server security protocols;
- Installing, configuring, upgrading and patching database, web server and application software;
- Working with release staff to plan and deploy database and application code to production environments;
- Managing and monitoring multiple development, test and production environments;
- Triaging and resolving operational issues;
- Working with development teams on system design and performance tuning.
Requirements:
- Ability and experience leading agile Scrum projects;
- Supervisory or management experience with direct reports;
- Familiarity with industry compliance and security standards including PCI DSS, SOC-1&2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, ITAR, CJIS and FDA;
- Cross-functional IT expertise (applications, information security, networking);
- Experience with Amazon AWS and Microsoft Azure solutions;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Bachelor’s degree in statistics, math, or computer science (or similar degree);
- Minimum 3 years prior work experience in similar position(s).
