Director of Business Development

You know the buyers. You know how national retailers make decisions. And you know what it takes to get a new product in the door. We’re looking for a Business Development leader who has built real relationships within the premium home, home décor, lighting, furnishings, or national retail world . If you’ve worked directly with Pottery Barn, Williams-Sonoma, or similar major home retailers, we definitely want to talk with you. Former Williams-Sonoma, Inc. employees with established relationships across the organization are especially encouraged to apply. This isn’t about taking over an existing book of business. You’ll be helping bring a new patented lighting technology to market and figuring out which retailers and partners should be part of the growth strategy. If this describes you, Your Bright Future: $125K–$175K+ base salary DOE Additional bonus/commission opportunity tied to sales goals High-visibility role working directly with the CEO Opportunity to introduce a new patented lighting product into major U.S. retail channels Significant input into retail strategy, partnerships, pricing, positioning, and go-to-market plans Approximately 20%+ travel for customer meetings, industry events and market development Where You’ll Make an Impact: Your focus will be opening doors and building partnerships with major retailers and other strategic accounts in the home category. We have a particular interest in someone who already understands Williams-Sonoma, Inc. and Pottery Barn and has relationships that can help start those conversations. You’ll: Develop relationships with national and regional retailers, with a particular focus on premium home and décor Leverage existing relationships to get in front of buyers, merchants and key decision-makers Pursue opportunities with Pottery Barn, Williams-Sonoma and other major home retailers Introduce a new patented lighting technology and determine where it fits within the retail market Build new business from the ground up rather than relying on inbound opportunities Own relationships from the initial introduction through presentations, negotiations and launch Develop retail programs, proposals and pricing recommendations Identify additional opportunities across home décor, lighting, furnishings, hospitality, wholesale and other relevant channels Bring customer and market feedback directly back to the CEO and product team Help shape the U.S. go-to-market strategy as the product line grows Who We Want to Meet: 5+ years of B2B business development, national accounts, retail sales or related experience Established relationships with major home, décor, furnishings or lifestyle retailers Direct experience selling products into national retail accounts Experience working with buyers, merchants and senior retail decision-makers Proven ability to open new accounts and develop business from scratch Experience launching or introducing new products into the market Comfortable working directly with executive leadership and helping build a strategy without an established playbook Strong understanding of pricing, negotiations, forecasting and account development Ability to travel approximately 20%+ as needed We Really Want to Talk If You Have: Current or former experience with Williams-Sonoma, Inc., Pottery Barn, Pottery Barn Kids, Pottery Barn Teen, West Elm or Williams Sonoma Established relationships with buyers or decision-makers within Williams-Sonoma, Inc. Experience selling into Pottery Barn or another major premium home retailer Experience getting a new brand or product onto the shelves or websites of major retailers Lighting industry experience, especially decorative, premium, architectural or specialty lighting Experience introducing a new or patented product where the market strategy was still being developed If you already know how to get the attention of major home retailers and like the idea of helping take a completely new product to market, we’d like to hear from you.
