HR Generalist

Nesco Resource is seeking an HR Generalist for a newly created position with an insurance firm committed to delivering exceptional client service and operational excellence.

Location: Hybrid - Huntington, NY with flexibility to work in Northport & Port Jefferson Station offices as needed

The HR Generalist will oversee key human resources functions for approximately 75 employees , including recruitment, onboarding, employee engagement, payroll, benefits, compliance, and performance management. This individual will also play an important role in improving internal processes and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage recruitment, onboarding, and employee development initiatives.
• Partner with managers and departments to ensure a smooth and effective onboarding process
• Administer payroll and employee benefits accurately and confidentially, including 401(k) administration. While payroll processing is managed through an outside payroll service, the HR professional will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating the payroll process, ensuring accurate and timely submission of payroll information, reviewing payroll for accuracy, addressing discrepancies, and serving as the internal point of contact for payroll-related questions and issues.
• Maintain HR policies and ensure compliance with applicable federal and state regulations.
• Provide guidance and support throughout the performance management process, including annual employee reviews.
• Track employee development and assist with organizational development initiatives.
• Identify opportunities to improve internal processes, workflows, and operational efficiency.
• Manage employee offboarding when necessary, partnering with professional advisors and technology teams to ensure a secure and compliant process.
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive employee, payroll, and company information.

Qualifications of the HR Generalist

• 5+ years of progressive HR experience, including payroll and benefits administration.
• Demonstrates sound judgment and discretion when applying company policies and procedures, understanding when flexibility or exceptions may be appropriate while maintaining consistency, fairness, and appropriate boundaries.
• Preferred Industry Background : Experience in a professional, white-collar service environment-such as insurance, legal, accounting, financial services, or a similar professional services industry-is strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of multi-state HR laws and regulations a plus
• Experience with HR operations, process improvement, and administrative functions.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a high level of emotional intelligence.
• Demonstrated integrity, discretion, and sound judgment.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with management and department leaders.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
