Job Description and Duties

The Health and Safety Analyst II performs analytical and program coordination duties in support of the Department of Developmental Services (Department) health and safety programs across Department locations and programs. The position supports ergonomic services, wellness initiatives, training activities, workplace inspections, purchasing and contract-related processes, and the maintenance of program records, webpages, databases, and tracking systems as assigned by the Health and Safety Officer (HSO). The incumbent reviews requests, reports, logs, and supporting documentation for completeness, accuracy, and consistency; identifies discrepancies, outstanding items, and follow-up needs; and prepares summaries, correspondence, reports, and recommendations within established guidelines. The position coordinates ergonomic appointments and approved equipment requests, including related delivery, installation, service, return, reassignment, inventory, and tracking activities, as well as access requests, training activities, service requests, program documentation, and related follow-up. Duties are performed in accordance with applicable occupational and environmental health and safety requirements, departmental policies, established procedures, and recordkeeping standards.

Effective July 1, 2025, State employees are subject to a salary reduction of three percent in exchange for five hours per month of the Personal Leave.

Working Conditions

Under Government Code 14200, this position is a hybrid, in-office/telework position, and may be subject to change. Incumbent can be required to report to the office, or any designated location at any time. Telework agreements can be modified and/or cancelled at any time.

Pursuant to California Government Code requirements, candidates must be residents of the State of California at the time of appointment. All commute expenses to the reporting location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

This position requires lawful authorization to work in the United States. The Department does not sponsor employment visas for this position.

Occasional overnight statewide travel may be required.

Special Requirements

The Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) must be typed in 12-point Arial font, single spaced, and be no more than two pages in length.  Applicants who fail to answer the question below or submit an SOQ may not be considered.

The MQs will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If it is determined that an applicant does not meet the MQs of the classification, the applicant may not be considered and withheld from the eligible list.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

Knowledge of: General principles and practices of program analysis, research, data review, recordkeeping, and administrative support. Basic workplace health and safety concepts, program coordination practices, and methods for tracking assignments, reviewing documentation, and identifying discrepancies or outstanding items. Standard office software, LMS platforms, webpages, and electronic tracking tools.

Ability to: Review and analyze requests, records, logs, r eports, and other program information for completeness, accuracy, and consistency; identify trends, discrepancies, and follow-up needs; and make recommendations within established guidelines. Prepare clear and accurate correspondence, summaries, reports, and program materials. Organize and maintain records, inventories, databases, webpages, and tracking systems. Coordinate appointments, training activities, access requests, purchasing and contract-related documentation, and other program activities. Interpret and apply established policies, procedures, and program requirements. Communicate effectively with employees, supervisors, managers, vendors, and other internal and external contacts. Prioritize multiple assignments, meet established timelines, work independently and collaboratively, exercise sound judgment, and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
