Judiciary Clerk 3 (Classified)

Job Title: Judiciary Clerk 3 (Family Division) Location: Morris County Courthouse (Morristown, NJ); travel to Sussex County Judicial Center and other judiciary locations may be required. The position allows up to 2 days of remote work. Responsibilities Serve as court clerk/backup court clerk to a Family Court Judge. Operate and maintain Court smart and test court recording equipment. Mark and maintain evidence and keep custody of exhibits. Prepare, call, and annotate the court calendar; administer oaths; record and maintain records of court proceedings; update case information. Answer inquiries from the public and explain judiciary policies and procedures to clients and customers. Perform data entry and case processing for Family dockets; process court documents through Jeds; upload documents to the E‑courts case jacket. Order prisoners from state institutions and/or county jails. Examine documents for adherence to applicable procedures; facilitate movement of case related matters; inform court users of filing delinquencies. Schedule dates or times for conferences, hearings, trials, adjournments. File documents and files in appropriate location; provide copies of requested documents to external and internal customers. Purge, destroy, or send to archives older case files. Complete orders/forms for various types of proceedings; enter case results and distribute orders to designated court users and appropriate offices. Screen and process time‑sensitive paperwork, including checking for accuracy; confer regularly with chambers staff regarding motions and scheduling. Perform other related duties as required. Qualifications External applicants: one year of experience performing a variety of clerical and support services, including keyboarding, document or information processing, handling payments for fees, recording monies received, reconciling balances or accounts, and/or scheduling meetings or appointments. Internal applicants: open to NJ Judiciary employees with at least one year of permanent service in specified career titles. Ability to perform physical tasks such as climbing, prolonged standing, stretching, bending, reaching, frequently lifting 30–50 pounds (occasionally up to 75 pounds). Driver’s license required only if vehicle operation essential. Must be authorized to work in the U.S. per DHS regulations; U.S. citizenship not required. Must agree to a thorough background check including fingerprinting. Salary Schedule A: $45,877.84 – $69,484.11. Schedule B: $45,877.84 – $62,203.88. New hires begin at the minimum of the range; current employees receive a 5% increase or the higher of the maximum or minimum of the band.
