Vice President, Inland Marine & Property UnderwriterIAT Insurance Group has an immediate opening for a Vice President, Inland Marine & Property Underwriter from our Scottsdale, Arizona or Cheshire, Connecticut locations.We're looking for an experienced Inland Marine & Property Underwriter to step into a visible, impact-driven VP role. This is not a maintenance-only seat. You'll lead a team of underwriters and grow a book while helping us expand our footprint—bringing ideas, relationships, and underwriting expertise that move the business forward.This role works a hybrid schedule that requires working from the office Monday through Wednesday, with the option of working Thursday and Friday remotely.Responsibilities:Own and actively grow a profitable book of inland marine and property business across the regionBuild and strengthen agency relationships to drive consistent, high-quality new business flowEvaluate risks, pricing, and coverage structures using experience and judgment—knowing when to lean in and when to walk awayAnalyze submissions, loss history, exposure changes, and external data to make informed, disciplined underwriting decisionsSet pricing that reflects the risk, using advanced loss analysis and sound judgment aligned with company strategyStructure deals creatively when needed, using coverage features, deductibles, or reinsurance to meet both client and company goalsInterpret policies and contracts clearly, providing guidance to brokers and internal partners, including claims when questions ariseMeet in person with distribution partners a minimum of 5 times per month. These visits keep us close to market activity, sharpen our read on emerging trends, and ensure our partners understand where we're focused and why.Perform other duties as neededQualifications:Must-Have:Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field12+ years of inland marine and/or property underwriting experience, including demonstrated expertise in leading, mentoring, and managing underwriting teamsStrong understanding of the insurance marketplace, including inland marine and property products, pricing, and competitive dynamicsProven ability to develop broker relationships that support both new and renewal business opportunitiesConfidence in risk selection, pricing, and structuring deals, including the use of deductibles, coverage features, or reinsurance where appropriateTo qualify, applicants must be authorized to work in the United States and must not require VISA sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment purposesPreferred to Have:Industry designations CPCU, ARM, or AUMaster's DegreeExposure to loss control or risk engineering—you think beyond the submission and into the actual riskAll qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran. Actual salaries will vary based on factors such as a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, and geographical location related to this specific role.
