About the Role
The Company is seeking a Vice President of Special Education to join its mission-driven organization. This senior leadership role is pivotal in providing strategic oversight of the school's educational programming, leadership, compliance, staffing, and student outcomes. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and holding the school Principal accountable, while also being deeply involved in day-to-day school operations. Key responsibilities include leading regulatory, accreditation, certification, and recertification efforts, overseeing complex IEP, staffing, educator credentialing, and compliance matters, and guiding enrollment, referral, census, staffing, and educational resource planning. The role demands a leader who can build strong collaboration across educational, clinical, and behavioral health teams, and who is adept at navigating employee relations in a unionized workforce to foster a positive, accountable culture. Applicants for the Vice President of Special Education position at the company must have a Connecticut Intermediate Administration or Supervision Certification, Endorsement #092, and a Connecticut Special Education Endorsement #165 or School Social Work Endorsement #071. A minimum of 5 years' educational administration experience, with a strong knowledge of special education regulations, IEPs, educator certification, and compliance, is required. The ideal candidate will have experience leading educational programs, administrators, and multidisciplinary teams, and the ability to obtain and maintain required CPR, First Aid, and crisis intervention certifications. Preferred qualifications include leadership experience in a therapeutic or similar educational setting, familiarity with Connecticut special education regulations and State Department of Education requirements, and exposure to DCF, Joint Commission, accreditation, audit, or recertification processes. Strong change-management, staff-development, and quality-improvement experience are also highly valued.
