Role Description The Business Development Manager role is a full-time hybrid position based in San Diego, CA, with flexibility for some work from home. This role is responsible for identifying and cultivating new business opportunities, building and maintaining relationships with employers, brokers, and strategic partners, and promoting Colonial Life’s portfolio of workplace benefit solutions. Day-to-day tasks include prospecting and qualifying leads, conducting needs assessments, delivering presentations and product demonstrations, and negotiating proposals to close new accounts. The Business Development Manager will collaborate closely with internal teams on implementation planning, enrollment strategies, and ongoing account management to drive growth and retention. The role also involves monitoring market trends, participating in local networking events, and maintaining accurate sales activity and pipeline records in CRM tools. Qualifications Candidates should possess strong sales, business development, and account management skills, including lead generation, relationship building, and closing ability. Candidates should possess skills in communication, presentation, and negotiation, with the ability to explain complex benefit solutions clearly to diverse audiences. Candidates should possess analytical and strategic planning skills, including market research, opportunity analysis, and data-driven decision-making. Candidates should possess organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple prospects, deadlines, and priorities in a fast-paced environment. Candidates should possess proficiency with CRM systems and common office software (e.g., Microsoft Office or similar tools) to document activities and manage pipelines. Relevant qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, finance, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. Experience in insurance, employee benefits, financial services, or B2B sales is highly beneficial, along with familiarity with workplace benefits and enrollment processes.
