Senior Lead Software Engineer - AI (Payments)

Salary: $61,000 - 101,000 per year Requirements:

• Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts, with at least 5 years of applied experience and demonstrated coaching or mentoring experience
• At least 10 years of experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems
• At least 3 years leading software engineering teams and delivering complex platforms or products with measurable outcomes
• Strong hands-on backend development experience in Java; other modern backend technologies are also acceptable
• Proven experience building external-facing APIs and integration platforms, including contract-first design, lifecycle and version management, security controls, and operational readiness
• Strong security fundamentals for external integrations, including OAuth2/OIDC, mTLS, PKI and certificates, secrets management, secure SDLC, and threat modeling
• Production experience building AI-enabled product capabilities beyond basic chat, including grounded retrieval or search, structured tool or action execution, guardrails, evaluation, monitoring, and auditability
• Proficiency in automation and continuous delivery, with an advanced understanding of agile and modern SDLC practices
• Strong understanding of application resilience and observability, including logs, metrics, and traces, as well as performance engineering and incident management
• Experience working in regulated environments with significant controls, compliance requirements, and reliability expectations
• Preferred: experience with developer portals or developer-experience platforms, including onboarding, documentation, integration tools, or sandbox and testing experiences
• Preferred: experience building workflow or orchestration systems, including state machines, asynchronous processing, retries, and compensating actions
• Preferred: experience with enterprise search, ranking, contextual retrieval, or content quality signals
• Preferred: cloud-native delivery experience with containers or Kubernetes, and event-driven architectures such as webhooks, callbacks, or streams
• Preferred: experience in payments, treasury, or broader financial-services platforms

• Lead the creation of an AI-first Developer Portal, defining architecture for agent-ready workflows, tool and action schemas, context assembly, and safe execution
• Build and operate AI-enabled support experiences that combine an assistant with workflow automation and understand client and workspace context, integration progress, and troubleshooting signals
• Design and deliver secure external API platform capabilities, covering contract-first design, versioning, backward compatibility, idempotency, pagination, consistent error models, and developer usability
• Own authentication and credential workflows for external integrations, including certificate handling, credential rotation, and secure onboarding
• Set engineering standards for production AI and automation, including evaluation and testing, release controls, telemetry, audit logging, and incident response
• Stay hands-on for approximately 50% of the role through critical-path coding, architecture and code reviews, debugging, and performance and resilience improvements
• Coordinate cross-functional delivery with API owners, security teams, and shared services to create a unified client experience across distributed backend teams
• Coach and develop engineers, establishing expectations for quality, delivery discipline, design rigor, and collaboration while building technical and leadership talent
