Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Step Down unit caring for newly diagnosed acute leukemia patients, requiring at least 1 year of PCU experience and 2 years of total acute care experience.

Details

• Step Down unit within an Acute Leukemia and Hematology department
• Day (3x12, 7:00-19:30) or Night (3x12, 19:00-7:30) shifts, potentially on a rotating schedule based on departmental needs
• Shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period, with changes based on staffing priorities
• Cares primarily for adult and geriatric patients newly diagnosed with acute leukemia
• Target staffing ratio of 1:4, with potential for 1:5
• Variable weekend requirements based on unit needs
• Uses Epic charting system
• No chemo certification required

Requirements

• Active OH or compact RN license required at time of submission
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• NIHSS certification preferred
• ONS Chemo certification preferred
• Minimum 2 years of total acute care nursing experience, current within the last 12 months
• At least 1 year of PCU/Stepdown experience required
• Epic charting experience required
• Skilled in telemetry monitoring and interpretation/management of dysrhythmias
• Experience with IV therapy/phlebotomy, starting and maintaining IVs, central line and PICC line care, peripheral line management, and blood product administration
• Experience with feeding tube care and management
• Experience using Rapid Response Teams
• Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
• Oncology experience preferred; training provided for oncology patient care

Additional Information

• Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient falls prevention
• First-time travelers will be considered and screened for fit
• Locals are accepted at the same rate
• Former employees eligible for travel assignment after 6+ months away from the facility
• Current employees are ineligible to be hired as a traveler at this health system
• 2 professional references required, including at least 1 from a manager/director or formal leadership role; a Charge RN is acceptable as the second reference; no coworker references accepted
• RTO must be submitted and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
• Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting promptly after signing contract, with specific instructions provided by the credentialing team based on candidate location
